Es una mariposa curiosa y mas que por sus colores que también lo es por su forma de volar y es que en el vuelo no puede pasar desapercibida, ademas sus alas menores son de un vistoso color amarillento anaranjado y su cuerpo tiene un patrón blanco y negro muy llamativo .

Esta especie de lepidoptero ditrisio de la familia sphingidae , vive en el sur de Europa incluyendo la península ibérica norte de áfrica y centro de asia , recibe el nombre "esfinge colibrí " por su vuelo y forma de alimentación que se asemejan a los del colibrí.
