Speaking Spanish is a Great Experience

Philippines was colonized by Spain for 333 years (1565-1898) and for that reason, the Hispanic greatly influenced our culture and traditions.

Way back 2014, during my 2nd year in college, we had this Spanish subject that required us to do a group project about making a music video using any Spanish song. That's a challenge for us millennial students because we are no longer a Spanish-speaking country since the Americans took over. Although some of our words are Spanish, it's still different when it comes to the pronunciation and some of its meaning.

History aside, after searching and listening to many Spanish songs, my groupmates and I decided to choose "Love You Like A Love Song (Spanish Version) by Kevin Karla and La Banda (the original version was sung by Selena Gomez & The Scene). We picked this song because of the popularity of the original version and the simplicity of the lyrics used in the song. Fortunately, our subject teacher approved our chosen song.

During the making of our group project, I realized that speaking Spanish is not that hard if you just put your heart into it and appreciate its beauty. Although there are some Spanish words that are hard to pronounce like "describirlo" but through practice, it becomes easy as saying "describe it" in English.

After submitting our project, our teacher didn't let us know our grades but basing from the criteria that he gave to us, I could say that our grades are not that high nor that low.

We may not know what grade our teacher gave us, we knew that he appreciated it. For he knew that we did our best despite of our little knowledge to the language and film editing.

Here is our own music video,
