Selling point

Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah. Judges 11:1

Jephthah was the son of a great man; Gilead. He had a dent on his personality which was not his fault, he was born out of wedlock. His mom was a prostitute. He had no choice in the matter, this was his cross and he had to deal with it.
Guess what he did? He went on to become a mighty man of valour. He altered his personality and made sure when people referred to him, they did not just call him a prostitute's son, they firstly recognized him as a mighty man of valour. This became his selling point.

Now, life has dealt some of us a bad hand that we have no choice but to deal with. The most important part of this is, how do you deal with the hand that you have been dealt? Do you let it determine your life's course or you make sure you change the order in which people refer to you?
It is important, just like Jephthah did, to be able to bring out your selling point and make it shine and surpass the ill-fate you were born into.
This is important because, just like Jephthah, there would come a time in your life when you will need your selling point.

And Gilead's wife bare him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou art the son of a strange woman.

Gilead's actual wife now had sons. The sons suddenly became uncomfortable with Jephthah's presence in the house. He was actually the first son, although illegitimate, and then he was also a mighty man of valour. Who knows, he could wake up one morning and decide to throw all of them out and take their dad's property 🤷🤷
So they decided to act fast. They chased him out of town and Jephthah had to go live with some ruffians.

And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob: And they said unto Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon. Judges 11:5-6

Years later, a problem came up and the people remembered Jephthah's selling point. They had to go meet him for help. Not because he was a prostitute's son, but because he was a mighty man of valour.
They no longer cared if he was illegitimate, all they were concerned with was his selling point!
Hence, I ask you this fine morning, What is your selling point?
