INTERESTED FACTS ABOUT THE FIFA WORLD CUP TROPHY
The FIFA World Cup Original Trophy is made of solid gold and weighs 6.142 kg, the current design dates back to 1974.
Because regulations state that the FIFA World Cup Original Trophy shall remain in FIFA’s possession and cannot be won outright, the team winning the FIFA World Cup™ retains the authentic Trophy temporarily and is then permanently awarded a replica, the FIFA World Cup Winners' Trophy. The Trophy used on the tour is the FIFA World Cup Original Trophy.
As one of the most recognized sports symbols in the world and a priceless icon, the FIFAWorld Cup Original Trophy can only be touched and held by a very select group of peoplethat includes former winners of the FIFA World Cup™ and Heads of State.
The trophy is worth US$150,000.
Following the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, the vertical alignment of the champions’ engraved names needed to be redesigned to fit future title holders. The list of world champions since 1974 was therefore rearranged into a spiral to accommodate the names of the winners of future editions of the tournament.
The FIFA World Cup Original Trophy will travel more than 152,000 km throughout the duration of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola
During its global journey, the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca- Cola will visit 91 cities in 51 countries, spanning six continents on a nine-month journey.
Nice trivia. Coca Cola sponsoring FIFA world cup is biggest irony ever. Unhealthy drink promoting sport.
