In part 1 of this series, we took a look at the beginnings of my engagement with sports-based video games. We took a look at the early technology that we were so excited to be using and explored some of the game titles that were popular at the time. It didn’t matter to us at that time that the quality of the graphics in the games was so bad because it was all we knew at the time. We actually thought that these were amazing and cutting edge. Just the fact that you could play a sports game on your television monitor was enough to make this experience the coolest thing in the world.

The reaction in the comments section of that post was fantastic. So many people have similar memories of when video games first started to become popular and there were so many sports games that came out at that time. It was fun to hear about your involvement with gaming at that early time and what some of your favourites were. Then there were those people who had never used one of the early gaming systems and really don’t have the reference point that some of us from an older generation have. Such a wide range of experience and involvement in gaming but in the end, most people are amazed by what this industry has achieved.

This post will be the next phase of my experience with sports video games leading up to where these games are today. The things that are happening in the gaming industry today have me absolutely floored but first, we need to start with when everything changed. The day I bought my first Sega Genesis machine!

When I got my Genesis gaming went to a whole new level and especially sports gaming. By now, all games were connected to the professional leagues and no matter what sports game you were playing, you could be your favourite star players. This was also around the same time that Electronic Arts (EA) got into the sports game business. EA had been in the gaming industry since the 70’s but their connection to Sega and the Genesis system really kick-started their surge to elite status. EA Sports is now synonymous with the sports gaming industry and one of the leaders in gaming.

As EA aligned itself with the Genesis, a rush of games commenced in 1990 with a port from the Amiga of Peter Molyneux’s Populous, Budokan: The Martial Spirit, and John Madden Football. Over the six year life span of the Genesis, EA would establish several long running franchises, including the Strike series, NHL Hockey, NBA Live, FIFA Soccer, and Road Rash.

The game that caught our attention and captivated us for NHL ‘94. This game was an evolutionary leap for us sports gamers. The game had all the players of course but now we were able to set lineups and choose players based on their various skills. Players were ranked with a variety of categories including strength and speed. We could play exhibition games and playoffs as well as run a 7 game playoff series. One of my favourite additions was the showing of the player's names who scored and the assists. We would run our own seasons and keep track of the points manually to see who had the best scoring player in our make-believe world. This would change quickly as the game evolved and started keeping stats for us and so much more. Over the next few years, the NHL franchise would grow and the quality of the game would reach all new levels.

This was similar for most of the big league sports games that we played. The NBA, NFL and MLB all fell in line as well with new and better games every year. We stated to see FIFA with new games and people would clamour to get the newest release and experience the latest and greatest evolutions. In 1995. We were able to start creating our own characters and players in these games. What an epic development for gamers. I was now able to create my own persona in the game and play right alongside my favourite stars.

We played every new system that came out. From the Genesis, we moved on to the Super Nintendo and the PlayStation. Every new system brought better graphics and increased the capabilities of the games. As time passed we were not only able to create our own players but we able to start choosing how they looked. We could pick the colour of our skin, the shape and size of our facial features and body. We could even incorporate scars and a wide variety of facial features. At the same time, the characters in the games were looking more and more like the real-life player than ever.

Madden Football is a great example of the evolution of the gaming industry. The graphics and player interaction in the entire industry was improving by leaps and bounds and you could see it in the sports games so well. Playing a game with such realistic moves and such an extensive playbook made the game feel so lifelike. Many a season of football would be played by a group of us who would get together and play through a season over one day. Each year's new version of Madden Football was one that we always looked forward to being released. We all wanted to find out who was on the cover of the game. For the longest time, it seemed as though the player who was chosen to be on the cover of this game was jinxed and would ultimately get injured in the next NFL season. It has come to be known as the “Madden Curse”.

Nearly 20 years into the iconic franchise’s history, there’s no escaping the “Madden Curse.” Since Garrison Hearst broke his ankle in 1998, shortly after starring on the cover of Madden NFL 99, most of the players who “starred” on the game’s cover have suffered an injury the following season. Of the 20 players who have been selected to grace the cover Madden games through this season, 17 have had troubling or abruptly shortened seasons following their cover debut — including several who suffered season-ending injuries shortly after their game hit shelves.

The release of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 has taken the gaming world to a whole new stratosphere and the sports games are benefitting immensely. At this point, the graphics have become so advanced that the gameplay feels like you are watching the real thing. Creative storylines have been added to sports games such as the “Longshot” mode in Madden Football the followed the story of a youngster and his journey to try to make the pros. The possibilities with the new game releases seem to be endless with the advanced capabilities of these machines.

What is the future of sports gaming? Technology is advancing at a rapid pace and thirst for better and more realistic gameplay is higher than ever. There is also the more mainstream introduction of Virtual Reality (VR) and Alternate Reality (AR). As these technologies improve and reach new heights, could we see yet another evolution in the way we play sports games? The Wii console put us in the game but wasn’t able to capture the realistic side of the games. I look forward to seeing where the industry takes us. If you are a sports gamer the future looks bright.

I can't believe that you had the Atari gaming system and grew up with that. Dude that basically makes you a legend :-)

It all started for me in early-mid nineties with the pac-man on windows computers. Then from there came Mario and then obviously I progressed to street fighter, tekken and such. Those are some of my most intense memories.

Admittedly, I did not go on to become a gaming nerd. I frankly wasn't much good at them. My last seriously played games were NFS and Delta Force and after that my gaming 'career' kind of had a major slump from which I never recovered.

Even then I saw my close friends go on to become serious players with thousands of dollars worth investment in gaming equipment. Another factor for my gaming slump was that we never had a lot of spare money to buy some decent gaming equipment. Every time the topic came up, it was passed over for more urgent necessaries.

Nevertheless I stayed in touch with my gamer buddies and got to enjoy many a great sessions with them. I am proud to say that some of those guys did really well. No longer are the gamers called the nerds from the basements. They are the heroes who have conquered virtual worlds and won millions of dollars for their efforts in the real world. Gaming industry has come a long way and it is set to go for even greater heights from here.

That's a great concept @adsactly and this is my contribution about evolution of sports video game.
Before you jump on the sticks and pick your adversary for another four fourth of Madden or an aggregate ninety in FIFA with those dreamlike visuals that regularly empower you to infuse yourself onto the turf, you can go back to about 60 years when somebody your age was doing combating a moving line to abstain from being scored on @adsactly.

The first computer game designs weren't such a great amount of not quite the same as the dialect and symbolism we've turned out to be acquainted with seeing while at the same time looking through our most loved web journals and applications. At most, you'd have the choice to complete four things on a comfort when playing: turn on the framework; stack the amusement; play against somebody; lastly, turn it off.

What's more, that was what you would call mind blown. With the Ataris, ColecoVisions, and Commodores of the gaming scene, to the Nintendos, Segas, Xboxes, and PlayStations that developed illustrations into what they are today, hues and shapes relentlessly framed through amusements like Tecmo Bowl and Jordan versus Larry Bird One on One. Presently, the subtle elements stream down to MJ's thrashing tongue and Anthony Davis' tuned unibrow.thats it..

My concept about this topic and my contribution to provide in your game evolution so just I say that @adsactly
The computer game industry is developing—quick. The normal age of a "gamer," that is, somebody who plays computer games all the time, is currently 37, as indicated by the Entertainment Software Association, an industry exchange gathering. That is up from a year ago, when the normal came in at around 35 years of age.

Astonished? Try not to be. All things considered, these "turning gray gamers" were the original to grow up with computer games as kids. As they've matured, numerous obviously continued playing, digging considerably more profound into the gaming void through consoles, PCs, and now their cell phones @adsactly.

In the event that you want to see this more seasoned, might I venture to state, more "refined" kind of gamer, at that point advance out west this week to the current year's E3 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, the gaming business' greatest public exhibition. There you will see a lot of Gen X'ers and Gen Y'ers (is that still a thing?) processing about, many wearing unkempt whiskers and amusing shirts like it's 2007. Evidently, shaving and clinging to current mold standards takes an excessive amount of time and exertion, time far from Assassin's Creed 32, or some other "new" emphasis of an once famous gaming title.so keep it up and to provide this it fluently @adsactly

@adsactly I liked your experience. Because today video games have become a drug addiction to us. Today, big stars like most of the video game today. That is why today the game is used more on the internet. In today's digital video, the video game industry is growing rapidly. I think video games in 2020 will be huge bigger in our world .. Do you think it is possible ??

Just the fact that you could play a sports game on your television monitor was enough to make this experience the coolest thing in the world.

I personally wasn’t that much of a player in my childhood when it comes to playing video games. However, there were times when I visited my friend’s home where we played together few video games. It was really fun as I remember. But mostly, I was an active sport kid. I played soccer, basketball, active swimming, playing ice hockey... Still then and now, not being much of a video games player, I have been watching on the sidelines and I can’t believe how much has everything changed, how much has everything advanced. As you mentioned, the quality today compared to just a few decades ago is astounding. Moving from the Genesis, on to the Super Nintendo, the PlayStation and Xbox must had been literally more than exciting just for the increased quality of graphics and sound. I mean 20 years ago, being able to see the concept of possibilities of what we have today, would make everyone shaking their heads. What should we expect now for our near future? I’m sure and you pointed it out as well, VR and AR will play a huge role, perhaps the biggest. Than I may not be watching on a sideline only.

From the comic world to video game. The generation have taken a long leap towards entertainment. Gone were days, when spiderman, or superman were used to be rhe comoc hero. Soon with the introduction of videos the game parlour started to take over the comic world. The changes gappened overnighte and it was hard to believe people started to love video games more. I do not remeber mich about video games, but have seen my friends spending good ampunt of money in game parlour playing mario. Even now my younger generation were excited with new gaming platform be it x-box or any other. Though these have many drawback too as over indulgence on video game have sever impact on mind and body

Hello Sir @ADsactly. Lookit. I got back in time to comment on another sports post. WooooHoooo. Great article Sir @ADsactly!everyone liked video games very much, My favorite game was definetely Pro Evolution Soccer 6!The generation have taken a long leap towards entertainment. Gone were days, when spiderman, or superman were used to be rhe comoc hero. From the comic world to video game. Sir, its a Amazing game.Sir @adsactly great to see this post but I have been never compared all this by the way post is amazing...
[email protected] for another great post in the series Evolution Soccer 6!

This is historical concept to provide by me @adsactly and I say that Preceding the 1970s, there was no noteworthy business part of the computer game industry, however numerous advances in processing would set the phase for the introduction of the business.
Numerous early freely accessible intuitive PC based amusement machines utilized or different components to mirror a show; while in fact not "computer games", they had components of intelligence between the player and the machine.
The advancement of cathode beam tube—the center innovation behind TVs—made a few of the principal genuine computer games. In 1947 Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. what's more, Estle Ray Mann documented a patent for a "cathode beam tube beguilement gadget". Their diversion, which utilizes a cathode beam tube snared to an oscilloscope show, challenges players to shoot a weapon at target.

Between the 1960s, with centralized server PCs getting to be accessible to grounds universities, understudies and others began to create amusements that could be played at terminals that got to the centralized computer. One of the principal known illustrations is Spacewar!, created by Harvard and MIT representatives Martin Graetz, Steve Russell, and Wayne Wiitanen. The acquaintance of simple with program dialects like BASIC for centralized computers took into account more shortsighted amusements to be produced.
@adsactly just it..

I say something about this topic just is very relevant @adsactly and this is my little bit concept provide in your post.
Games and computer games have gone together since essentially the beginning of the computer game industry.

From the beginning of outsider looking football players (on the off chance that you can truly call them that) on the Atari 2600 to present day amusements like NBA 2K12—a diversion that looks so genuine, numerous individuals taking a gander at it from a separation think it is a genuine amusement—sports-based computer games have dependably been a staple of the gaming business.

It is a world in which I have been included for a long time. In the recent years, in any case, that world has changed. Abruptly eSports have turned out to be exceptionally prevalent with an ever increasing number of individuals attracted to what was at one time an extremely specialty portion of the computer game industry and the wearing scene @adsactly.

I went to the 2012 Spring Championships in Anaheim two or three weeks back. What I saw flabbergasted me—and I have been going to MLG occasions since the start.

Hi @adsactly sir..I got back to steemit again sir... One online game, which will play a little bit in front of death. And before accepting this death, some bold steps should be taken by the competitor. Due to the drunkenness of this game called 'Blue Whale', now there are many schools in America, Büne Europe.
