AFC Title Game - Showdown at Arrowhead
This Sunday the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots will face off at Arrowhead Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 6:40 Eastern Standard Time. No matter what time the game actually starts, it will be High Noon. When I think of the meeting between the Chiefs and the Patriots, Western movies spring to mind. Classics like “High Noon”, “The Gunfighter” and “Tombstone”.
Who Shot Ringo?
In the movie, “The Gunfighter”, Johnny Ringo was known as the fastest gun in the West. He also was the most notorious and feared killer. Johnny Ringo was constantly being called out to prove himself. Everyone wanted to be known as “the man who shot Ringo”. In the NFL, Tom Brady is the most notorious gunslinger and feared killer of them all. His reputation truly precedes him. Everyone wants to be the one who ends the Patriots run. Unlike Ringo, Brady has never been the fastest gun; just the most accurate and the coolest under pressure. These qualities are an absolute necessity in a shootout. And make no mistake, Sunday will be a shootout.
Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City is the latest challenger. Brady and Mahomes will stare each other down on Sunday. Only 1 will emerge as the winner.
I’m Your Huckleberrry:
"I’m your huckleberry” is a way of saying that one is just the right person for a given job. In the movie Tombstone, it was always said in response to a challenge. Mahomes is the Chiefs’ Huckleberry. He is an exciting player that has captivated football fans all over. He is becoming the face of the league and he believes that his time is now. This Sunday he can become the Doc Holliday of the NFL. The Chiefs have a passionate fan base; a longsuffering fan base. The Chiefs have not won a championship since 1969. He has exorcised the Kansas City Curse. The Chiefs had not won a home playoff game since 1993. Mahomes was born in 1995. He is also the leading candidate for the MVP. Only one other player is being seriously considered; Drew Brees.
A New Sheriff in Town:
Mahoomes is an exciting player that has captivated football fans all over. He is becoming the face of the league and he believes that his time is now. The league may even be silently rooting for the Mahomes to make it to the Super Bowl. If they meet the Rams, it would be a repeat of the game they played in week # 11 of the season. It was a high scoring affair. The teams combined for over 100 points. It would be a potentially great game for the fans. The game made a lasting impression on the direction of the league as well.
If it is the Saints and Drew Brees, then that also becomes a strong narrative. You get the two leading candidates for the MVP. Brees is an established gunslinger and a legend. If Brees adds a second Super Bowl to his resume, he can lay claim to being the GOAT. On the other hand, Mahomes, would have to take down two legends to establish himself as the “Best in the West”. Mahomes will then go down as the kid who delivered. However, it’s one huckleberry at a time.
It's a great news
