Toxicity of Sports Culture on Athletes’ Mental Health

in #sports5 years ago

When we talk about athletes performance, we are happy when we see their good performance. How about when they do not perform well?

It is not that an athlete always does better. Sometimes they cannot perform well and it happens. They have to be healthy. If they are sick, they will not  be in a position to play. They look good from outside. How about their feelings?

Mental health is really important. If they are consistently forced to win and then win the next thing, after a certain period of time, you feel very pressured. And they are not okay what's going on inside. In this video,  Dr. Hillary Cauthen talked about the toxicity of sports culture on athletes’ mental health.

From the outside, it is not easy to understand what's going on inside. It is time to take care of athletes mental health and emotions. If someone is doing good, but not feeling well, that is not good at all. Losing a game is not the end of the world. When you suffer from the mental issue, they do not express it that much. And they don't get help and support from experts.

It is time to think of sports culture in a new way, otherwise, parents will not be encouraged to let their children be an athlete. Thank you very much for reading this post and watching the video. If you like this post, you can follow me. Please comment below and express your thoughts.
