NFL Week 4 Recap and Week 5 Fantasy Primer

This is sort of a new segment. I realized I can't match the quality and the amount of information that is already out there, but I can give you some of my insights and point you in the right direction. This segment will have my own slant on things, but it will feature links to articles that I think are particularly useful.

Week 4 Recap

Undefeated Teams

Only Kansas City and the New England Patriots remain undefeated with 4-0 records. New England held on to fend of a Buffalo Bills team whose defense is as good as advertised. Kansas City completed a game winning drive to beat the Detroit Lions. Only San Francisco is undefeated in the NFC albeit at 3-0 as they come off of their Week Four bye.

Big Time Performances

While we waited for Patrick Mahomes, Ezekiel Elliott, Alvin Kamara, Julio Jones, and Keenan Allen to lead to fantasy glory, the reality was a little bit different. Jordan Howard anyone? The guy came out of nowhere for three TDs including a receiving TD. Here are some of the other huge performances:

Anyone we can trust next week? I don't think so.

Injuries

The big one is Davante Adams who will miss Week Five at a minimum, but we also say injuries to Mitchell Trubisky, Josh Allen, and T.J. Hockensen. There are also some players who status is up in the air including Marlon Mack, James Conner, Devin Singletary, Christian Kirk, and Terry McLaurin.

Waiver Wire

This isn't the week to blow all of your FAAB on a player based on who is available in most leagues right now. There are folks out there that may be good for a spot-start(looking at you Auden Tate), but that's about it.

My favorite picks are Golden Tate and Chris Herndon who are coming back from suspensions. Andy Dalton and Tyler Eifert have a dream matchup this week and are probably available. If you have room on your bench, now is the time to stash a valuable backup or two like Jaylen Samuels, Tony pollard, James White and/or Nyheim Hines. White and Hines have standalone value as PPR targets with good matchups this week.

Good Trends/Stats to Know

Quite possibly the craziest stat so far in fantasy: "Pending Monday Night Football, the Patriots D/ST would rank as the QB6, RB4, WR1, and the TE1." Wow. Here's the rest of the article https://www.thefantasyfootballers.com/articles/ten-things-we-learned-in-week-four-fantasy-football/

This is one of my favorite articles each week. It's long, but full of great info. Don't lose hope for DeAndre Hopkins, Will Fuller, and Sammy Watkins: https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/football/news/fantasy-football-week-4-stealing-signals-stats-waiver-targets-trade-candidates-for-every-game/
