Before I jump into the details of yesterday's game, which was an intense "winner takes all" challenge, I must tell you about the new grippers I purchased. I had been eyeing these for quite some time, and yesterday was my first opportunity to try them out in a game. These are not the original ones, as the authentic version costs around $100, and I currently cannot afford to spend that much on shoes. Instead, I opted for an 'A copy' replica of the Adidas Fluroskin and these costed me around $30

Let me tell you, even though they aren't the originals, I was thoroughly impressed with their performance. The fit was tight, providing excellent support, which made a noticeable difference during the game. I could move with more confidence and agility, which is crucial in a high-stakes match like the one we had yesterday. I had been hesitant about purchasing a replica, concerned that the quality wouldn't measure up, but these exceeded my expectations. They offered a great balance of comfort and stability, making me feel almost like I was wearing the genuine article. In a game where every little advantage counts, having these new grippers on my feet was a game-changer.

The game

The game kicked off exactly at 9 PM. The opposing team had already arrived around 8:40, prepared and ready to play and of course, my teammates began trickling in after 8:50, each displaying their usual routines. One was smoking a cigarette, another was engaged in a conversation on his mobile phone, and the third was still in the parking lot, checking the petrol in his bike. This casual attitude among my teammates has been a constant source of frustration for me. I often wonder when they will start taking things more seriously. They frequently tell me that I worry too much, and perhaps they have a point.

Despite our laid-back approach, we manage to perform remarkably well. We stroll onto the field with a casual demeanor and maintain that same attitude throughout the game. The only significant difference is that we manage to score five goals in the meantime. This paradox is both amusing for me. While our opponents prepare and strategize, our relaxed and seemingly indifferent behavior does not hinder our performance. It's a peculiar dynamic, but somehow, it works for us. Nonetheless, I can't help but feel that adopting a more serious approach might improve our game even further.

Last night, I played a more central role. The strategy was to provide my wingers with good passes while they tried to open up more space on the field. My task was to draw a couple of defenders toward the center before sending a through ball to either the left or right side. This tactic worked exceptionally well for us. We managed to score a goal just two minutes after kickoff. By pulling defenders towards me, I created opportunities for my teammates to exploit the open spaces on the flanks. This allowed us to penetrate their defense quickly and effectively. The early goal boosted our confidence and set a positive tone for the rest of the match.

By the end of the first half, we were up 3-0. One of my friends, who wasn't playing, was sitting on the sidelines watching the Euros Round of 16 match between England and Slovakia. He kept me updated with the score, and in between plays, he had a few things to say:

"Why has Bellingham been so terrible for England?"

"Why does Southgate always play Foden on the left?"

"When is Kane going to announce his retirement?" 🤣🤣🤣

Despite the constant distractions, we maintained our dominance over our opponents, keeping them on the backfoot throughout the game. They never managed to get the ball past our defense, and it seemed almost too easy by the latter part of the second half. By then, we were up by four goals. I was having the time of my life, even though I hadn't scored any goals. I was undoubtedly the best playmaker of the match, providing three of the five goals we scored.

This was the best footy session I had in a long time because I was free to play my natural game. It's always better when you can play the way that suits you best, and for me, that means assisting my teammates with good passes. There was a memorable moment in the match when I was one-on-one with the keeper. Instead of scoring, I pulled an 'Ozil' move and passed the ball to my right to a teammate who wasn't expecting it and missed the opportunity. 😂😭

We won the match 5-0 and bagged the money home, I'm not sure if this team is going to show up the next weekend for another challenge as we did them dirty but there was a lot to take home from yesterday's session such as how playing together as a single unit and not going for personal glory is going to help the cause.

Till next time

You guys are lucky South Gate wasn’t your coach… the players would have been so serious and would have even arrived by 7pm to start training for the main match… only to end up playing draw or struggling to pull off a bicycle kick goal that will keep you one goal ahead to win the game… 😊

Buddy, I don't know how you manage football in this extreme hot season, especially in Karachi 😯! I've heard about Karachi's heat, but you surprised me.

Look at our area (Lakki Marwat), it's 43°C feels like 53 and even the AC fails to perform.

Might be you can't afford it though. By the way, kudos to you and your new 'grippers' for that 5-0 win! Next time, try not to make your teammates miss those 'Ozil' passes 😂!
