Sporting Stuff 003: Successful men don't watch sports?

in #sports7 years ago (edited)

"Successful people don't watch TV or sports."

Do rich men really not participate in sports? Or is it just a salty statement from people who are not really into it? It was the first time I heard of that statement, I was itching to find out if it was true.

I was chatting with a friend today and learned of the term " Rich men don't watch sports" .

"I guess that explains why I'm not successful." I said with a tongue in cheek.

I'm a sports fan, I am a Manchester United fan, I watch Badminton and Basketball. Give me whatever sports you can find and I'll be able to appreciate the beauty in it. I love sports! I guess that was why that statement kind of scared me a little bit, I love sports, I also want to be successful. But I don't want to choose!! :0

I decided to find out.

Surely there are a few successful people out there who do watch sports!

Google.

I dug into the internet, I was a man on a mission. Truly enough it's a famous saying but surely this statement can't be accurate. I struggled to find an article that debunks it, usually you find two sides of a controversy, but unfortunately I couldn't find substantial facts on the internet.

Parameters

Like any research, there has to be a limit, the range of a research. Many successful people in sports are rich but because the statement is so contrary to the whole sporting niche, this light research will omit people in sports because... they just don't fit the reason why I'm doing this research.

Secondly, the term successful people will omit most celebrities. Now that does not mean celebrities are not successful, but realistically to give normal hustlers like me hope. The people that I consider "Successful" will have to come close from a lower to middle class society who made it big.

1. Jerry Seinfeld

So i said no celebrity actors, but Jerry Seinfeld the iconic comedian was quite the hustler in honing his craft and paving his way to success, but he's also known for being the biggest supporters of the New York Mets.

2. Mark Cuban

Mark Cuban being a fierce entrepreneur is passionate about making business. With various investments and a TV show Shark Tank, he still finds time for his passion. So much so that he bought his passion, being the owner and sort of the sub manager of the basketball team the Dallas Mavericks. His investments and his passion for the sport eventually did pay off as they did win an NBA Championship in 2011.

3. Tony Fernandes

The big man of Airasia is no stranger to sports as his passion for sports led him to a controversial decision to purchase a footbal club " Queen's Park Rangers".

“Yup, I’m an addict,” he says. “Not so much to football as QPR. I was invited by my friend Roberto Carlos to go to Wembley for Spurs against Madrid and I said, sorry Robbie really I’m not interested. I’d rather watch QPR’s Under-18s than the World Cup final. I live near Loftus Road, walk to the ground on matchdays, and there’s nothing I enjoy more afterwards than going to the pub on Shepherd’s Bush Green and having a pint with the fans. I’m a one-woman man: I only love QPR.”

4. Warren Buffet

Not a stranger for his hustling in the stock market industry, you can read about his fun side here. Occasionally turning up for Cleveland Cavalier games.

So yea, it's a pretty small percentage of successful people in the field of sports. But then maybe it's just priorities, maybe it's not so much that they don't watch sports but rather they don't have the time? Then again if you don't have time to watch sports don't have time for the things you love to do in life... Does that mean that you became "successful" in life?

What do you think about this list? Do you agree with the statement? Pop a comment and let me know what you think! :)

Yeah agreed is like so stupid to watch football as they're running around to get the only ball rolling in their feets and might need to steal away from each player.. Might as well go buy 1 ball for each and everyone of them to kick it straight to the goal to get score is even better so there would be no injuries during the game... 😂😂😂😂😂

Brother don't try to choose. Enjoy both of them because it is possible to be successful and enjoy sports at the same time. It is all about managing your time. Maybe sometimes you will miss games chasing your "success", but you should definitely not eliminate one or the other. Just learn how to decide what is more important at the certain time in your life. :)

As you can see many famous people are sports fans as well. So why should you be any different? Enjoy life, my friend. :)

Yes that's right! That's what this post was about to sort of convince people and myself that there are plenty of successful people aside from celebrities who watch sports!!

Don't worry though, I love sports too much to drop it! I'd honestly rather live a normal life than to drop the option of choosing sports between a successful life.. haha! Guess it's just a matter of perspective!

Thanks for dropping by mate! :)

Successful people buy sports! Haha!

Hahahah yaaasss!!!

some athletes are quite successful in their own right.

I guess they don't watch sports too :D

Hahah! Yes! Plenty of athletess are very successful but I've omitted them from this light research as it's not the scope I'm interested in.

The scope for this article is aimed towards the blue collared hustlers who made it big.

No la I meant the phrase "rich men don't watch sports" is BS, because many sportsmen and sportswomen are filthy rich! haha

Ahh I must've misread that!! Haha yes indeed!! BS it is!! Haha the crazy relaity is they'd earn more in a week than what we'd earn in a lifetime

I stopped watching sports over a decade ago. Besides the World Cup and European Championships, I just think it’s a waste of time. When I see the pundits on TV having the same conversation that I heard people having 20 years ago, It’s just difficult to swallow that grown men and women could be so dull.

As for the olympics, I haven’t watched that since ‘92. They’re almost all drugged up cheats.

You're not wrong, there's a lot of problems with the business
