Has the Footballing Transfer Market Gone Mad?
Frenchman Ousmane Dembélé’s salary can reach €20 million per year according to new information coming out of Football Leaks. Dembélé was acquired by Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund just prior to the closing of this summer’s transfer market window.

Barcelona hope the new signing will be able to fill the void left by Neymar’s transfer to PSG earlier in the summer.
Dembélé’s base salary is estimated to be worth €9 million per year, but he can earn up to twice that amount in bonuses if he can attain certain objectives this season.
The Frenchman cost Barcelona a whopping €105 million, though according to the Football Leaks source, that amount can reach a mind-boggling €147 million. Apparently, Barcelona spent €9 million in commissions alone in the trade for Dembélé.
Below are the top 5 football transfers in the last two years:
PLAYER | FEE |
---|---|
Neymar | €216M |
Ousmane Dembélé | €105M |
Paul Pogba | €97M |
Romelo Lukaku | €82M |
Gonzalo Higuain | €82M |
By comparison, Cristiano Ronaldo was transferred to Real Madrid back in 2009 for €91 million. Most experts consider Ronaldo’s price a bargain after all his personal achievements and titles at Real Madrid since 2009, but can these players deliver the same performance for their price?
Has the footballing transfer market gone mad? What are your thoughts on some of these transfer fees?
