My Thoughts On Andrew Luck’s Shocking Retirement.
It’s been a few days since Luck’s shocking announcement. Talking heads have predictably talked about it from almost all angles. Here are a few of my thoughts that I think are not getting enough attention in this fascinating story.
He has an engineering and architecture degree from Stanford. He has many Silicon Valley connections as well. Intellectually he is a very smart guy. He clearly has many interests outside of football.
He was a very tough player who also played like a gentleman. He would often compliment opponents who sacked him. He also showed his toughness by running hard and not sliding like most quarterbacks. He had a litany of injuries and frequently played hurt.
He also mentioned that his marriage and family are very important to him. I’m sure that he will be happier spending more time with his family and not bring on the road so much.
The fact that he walked away from possibly hundreds of millions of dollars is overblown. He’s already made $97 million. Money also isn’t always the driving force for all people. What’s the point of making more money but having a diminished quality of life due to catastrophic injury.
His father Oliver was an NFL quarterback as well. He is currently the commissioner of a new football league. Maybe Luck will play in that league or at least have some position there.
Whether he is a hero or let his teammates down is constantly debated and I won’t rehash it here. What is known for sure is that I’m very interested in what he does next. Good luck to him.

I’d love to see all the rest of the nfl players retire for their health & show all the aspiring football playing kids that health is much more important than football is. It is a pyramid scheme built on brain damage
