Rashford, Mbappé and Dembélé among 2017 Golden Boy nominees
The 25-man shortlist of Europe’s best young footballers of 2017 has been announced and it’s going to be a very hotly contested affair.
Since 2003, Italian newspaper Tuttosport has handed out an annual award known as the Golden Boy to the best player under-21-years-old in that calendar year. The winner is decided by a panel of 30 journalists and previous winners include Paul Pogba (2013), Isco (2012), Raheem Sterling (2014) and last year, Renato Sanches.
This year’s favourite is arguably Kylian Mbappé after the 18-year-old helped Monaco to the Ligue 1 title last season before sealing a sensational €180 million summer move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Ousmane Dembélé – who himself became a €100m player when he joined Barcelona this summer – will likely run his French international colleague close for the award, while Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus have also made a strong case for themselves this year.
Unusually, England is the most represented country on the shortlist with an impressive six nominees.
So who deserves to win?
