Khabib Nurmagomedov wants to return in November or December
New UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has finally released a lengthy statement regarding his recent Title victory and his plan for the future.
It reads:
"At this moment, atmosphere is very heated: there is Conor and Tony, Porier, Lee and Alvarez, all of them are good. Fight with any of these guys would be very interesting and competitive. I never choose opponent, fought with any fighter who was offered me to fight, and I’m not going to change that. I’m coming back November - December to defend my belt. Whoever the UFC decide to fight me with, I’ll sign."
I'm happy to see any of these fights, they're all going to be excellent, and I can't even imagine how Khabib will get through all of them without getting a loss, 2019 is going to wild for sure.
My gut feeling is that we see Alvarez Poirier 2 before we see any of the other story-lines unfold, because that's for sure Khabib, Tony and Conor out until the end of the year now. Kevin Lee is in limbo now also if he's healthy, he should keep busy and jump up to welterweight for a fight or two to get some extra experience while he waits.

Oh cool, I thought he would have wanted to fight earlier. I think Alvarez vs porier will happen now in that case. I though khabib was gona fight porier or lee around August-September but I guess not... I think lee would really give khabib trouble due to his great wrestling... he kind of seems like a better Version if khabib, if I dare say such a thing.
I was hoping khabib would keep fighting and Tony gets the title shot when he’s back and healthy... don’t really care about conor too much but it will be huge when he comes back and I guess it will be vs khabib
Yeah it looks like Alvarez Poirier 2 is the one to make, I don't mind at all haha, the last one was insane before the stoppage. I agree Lee is a great wrestler, I don't think he's ready for Khabib yet tho, he's only 25 and I think he lacks a little bit of strength and experience, he will definitely be ready for that type of fight in a year or two tho I think.

yea good point lee is still really young, he looked very good against barboza, and for sure in a year or 2 he will get his shot, maybe sooner if he has one more impressive win...

Yea once khabib gets someone down he smothers then like no one else. I wonder how him vs lee would go... I wonder if he could/would be able to do that to another big 155 that is also very good wrestler... I think khabib would have taken Tony down but Tonys jujitsu and ground game would have been bad for khabib, also Tony’s standup. Dam I wanted to see that fight sooo bad :( I hope Tony can come back the same and heal up 100%

Haha great idea! I really hope Tony can heal up and get strong again soon, and still be at his 100% when he comes back. It was a massive surgery, I was surprised when I saw the scarring! It’s huge!
Yeah man it was so crazy, hopefully he does come back 100% and it hasn't changed him permanently.
Lightweight division is on fire, so many killers! For now I'm going to go on the assumption that Ferguson and Conor aren't in the running for a match against Khabib until I hear something definitive from their camps. That leaves Alvarez, Poirier, Lee at the moment. Any one of those guys could go, and Lee is ready. Yeah he's 25 but he has more fights in the UFC than Khabib, and absolutely smashing Barboza puts him in front of Poirier in my opinion.
Like you said Alvarez vs Poirier 2 makes sense, especially with the previous NC. Orr...How about Lee vs Poirier..?
Maybe Lee Poirier actually, that would be a great fight. I don't think Lee is ready tho man, Khabib would nullify his wrestling.
Looking at how Khabib's smothering ground game is coming together, I'm starting to believe that no one in the division is going to be able to match that.. reminds me of GSP.
I can't see anyone beating him at the moment, Tony and Conor stand the best chance in my opinion.
