The former Blancos goalkeeper and once a team-mate of the Cristiano Ronaldo, Iker Casillas is of the opinion that Lionel Messi and Virgil van Dijk deserves more than to get the coveted prize. And even goes further to explain that it would be senseless for Ronaldo to win the 2019 Ballon d'Or.

The Juventus star who is a five-time Golden Ball winner is back in contention to clinch a sixth one and has made the list for candidates who are tipped to win.

Ronaldo would have very stiff competitors in the person of his eternal rival Lionel Messi and the in-form Virgil van Dijk.

Messi won the FIFA Best award, while Virgil van Dijk won the UEFA Player of the Year and overlooking them in favour of Ronaldo would cast aspersions on the integrity on FIFA's guidelines.

The World Cup winner posted in a message on social media: “Van Dijk was chosen as UEFA's best player; Messi was chosen by FIFA; if Cristiano wins the Ballon d'Or, it would seem to me that the guidelines we use in football to determine who wins its biggest individual awards are not logical.”

Cristiano has not made merits to win the golden ball, let's be serious ..

There’s is no logic because the journalists clearly don’t understand football until he retires Messi will always be the most influential and complete footballer. Football is a noble art and Messi as humble as always plays with his feet and not with his mouth, real recognize real.

The prize that Van Dijk won is voted by journalists; the prize that Messi won is voted by 25% each of journalists, captains, coaches, fans, but Van Dijk won among journalists. The Golden Ball is voted by journalists. So so far there is a logic ...

Cristiano has not made merits to win the golden ball, let's be serious ..

There have never been guidelines to give the golden ball, pure marketing and a totally irrelevant prize, it should not be given more importance than it actually has.

Zero logic! Iniesta, Xavi or Casillas deserved a Golden Ball for all the success they achieved with their clubs and national team. This trophy has lost a lot of prestige.

Van Dijk the best for journalists
Messi for players and coaches.

France football has no credibility, whoever wins has lost it by having fanatical journalists like FREDERIC HERMEL on their payroll, who vote for their friend or their colours

As if the players didn't do that. Just look at the votes many times.
