Don’t compare me with Okocha – Aribo
Joe Aribo has revealed that watching AustinJay-Jay Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu who both played for Super Eagles in the past influenced his decision to return to Nigeria from England.
Aribo who made his debut by scoring for the Super Eagles in their friendly against Ukraine, claims that watching both stars play for Nigeria when he was a kid informed his decision to return and play for his Motherland. The match ended in a 2-2 draw in Dnipro last month.
“I could have played for England but my parents are from Nigeria and I always watched players like Jay-Jay Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu as a kid.
The player expressed that when people compare him with Jay-Jay Okocha, they put undue pressure on him but he says he can't wait to impress more and to prove himself further in the upcoming friendly against Brazil in Singapore.
He added, “Games don’t come much bigger than Brazil and we know they’ve got a lot of stars like Neymar.
I feel the comparison is to make him work harder as much as it is a compliment. Jay Jay Okocha was a great player.
