The third qualifying round of the Champions League was held this week and it saw some huge surprises. The Scottish side Celtic and Portuguese side FC Porto were beaten on aggregates meaning they won't appear in the Champions league this season.

The Romanian side CFR Cluj overcame Celtic who were home to win 4-3 which ended 5-4 on aggregate to progress to the next stage of the Champions League. And on the other side Porto lost 3-2 at home to Russian side FK Krasnodar to end the aggregate at 3-3 and qualify to the next stage on away goals rule.

Both Celtic and Porto dropped to Europa League and will be playing the play off round where Celtic faces Sherrif of Moldova or Sweden's AIK. Krasnodar will be playing Olympiacos for a place in the group stages of Champions League.

Many other giants too survived on the night as we saw last Champions League semifinalists Ajax win by a narrow margin of 5-4 on aggregate over Greek side PAOK and Red Star Belgrade went to penalties to beat Copenhagen.
