The Paris Saint-Germain forward, Angel Di Maria has commended the manner in which his international team-mate, Lionel Messi captained the national side regardless of their inability to win the trophy. The last time Argentina lifted the trophy was way back in 1993 Copa America.

The match which was played in Belo Horizonte in July had the tournament hosts beating Albiceleste 2-0.

Though it was a disappointing outing, Di Maria revealed that their captain, Messi, made a very touching speech after the match in which he declared how so very proud He was of the squad.

"Messi said some beautiful words when we were eliminated by Brazil," Di Maria told ESPN . "Messi told us he was proud of the team we had built.
"Once he finished, everyone was in tears because it touched everyone's hearts, especially the youngsters.

I love Lionel Messi, his humility and his temperament. To me, he's one of the best players ever.

Yes he's a great player. He is not known as the Barcelona talisman for nothing.

I do agree with you, he's one of my best, the way he handles the ball and plays his game, it all looks so easy.

Messi is often criticised by his country for failing to replicate his Barcelona feats with the national side.

Messi is one of the most unassuming football star I have ever known and that's his personality. Stardom didn't change that.

You are right, I see so much humility in him which even rising to fame and fortune had never changed.
