Spotify, the game changer

in #spotify5 years ago

“YOU CAN TELL A LOT ABOUT A PERSON BY WHAT’S ON THEIR PLAYLIST.”

Since Spotify officially launched on October 7, 2008, they radically changed the music industry. We can go into the whole history of the illegal music downloads and streaming and the fact that there are complains about the fairness of the Spotify model by major labels and artists.

Perhaps it is more interesting to get into the best way to use the music streaming service and get the most out of your favorite playlists, artists and podcasts. If you want to dive a little deeper in the business story behind Spotify and how they do it, you can visit: https://spotify.design

CREATE, SHARE AND DISCOVER

Having a party? A nice way to put together a playlist for a party is to start a collaborative playlist where all your friends can add their favorite songs. Right-click on the playlist name, and it’ll give you the option of making it collaborative. Then share the link with your friends & colleagues and prepare yourself for the best or should I say the worst?

DISCOVER WEEKLY AND RELEASE RADAR

Every Monday and Friday Spotify generates a list based on your favorite artists and songs and helps you to discover some new gems! The list of 30 songs is not always what u expect or instantly love however, at least 3 to 5 tracks make it directly into one of my personal playlists. Another feature is to follow your friends and if they have an open account you can see what they are listening to at the moment and easily click on the song or playlist. You can find the ‘Friend Activity’ at the right of your screen.

Tip: If you don’t want to wait on you discover weekly or release radar, click on the info button on one of your self-made playlists and click ‘Create Similar Playlist’. This creates a new playlist with the same amount of songs based on the songs in the playlists.

PODCASTS

Another feature that Spotify offers is to listen to podcasts. This option gives a nice break from the nonstop music and for me, it works really well during traveling, also it is a nice option to have one on the background while working. Find some inspiration or get free knowledge without any effort, all the classic subjects are there, sports, art, music and politics. If you have the idea that you have something to share with the world? why don’t start by creating your own podcast? Download the anchor app and create and upload your own podcasts for free.

New to Spotify?
Transfer your music playlists from other apps and listen everywhere!

Don’t panic, you can transfer your existing playlists on other music services to Spotify. The Soundiiz website is a great way to get it done and supports all the services you’d expect. Another great feature is the possibility to play music while you are offline, just download your playlist on your device when you are connected to WIFI and you will always have access to your favorite songs.

WHATZHAT PLAYLIST

Here at Whatzhat, we’ve created a Saigon Vibes playlist that will be updated by one of us from time to time. Since we have different nationalities, ages and of course a different taste of music, the playlist will cover a wide range of genres.

For the kick-off, it was my turn, so I’ve picked 20 tracks that I listened to a lot in my period in Saigon. You can expect some experimental, instrumental hip hop to more danceable French-house and techno tracks. They remind me of the sometimes-structured chaos the traffic can be, or of one of the many secret coffee spots with a little hidden garden in the back.
