Splinterland card review: Javelin Thrower
This week battle challenge is about the Javelin thrower so let’s review it.
The Javelin Thrower is one of the rare long range units of the earth splinter. It is the only card in my knowledge to come in with 2 attacks strength for this splinter.
Earth splinter are several long range units with wonderful HP/mana ratio :
- The Javelin thrower is one of them with a ratio of 1.
- The Goblin chef also have 1 ratio.
- The Barking spider has ratio of 1,25.
So the Earth splinter can deploy long range units with a reasonable life count but only the Javelin thrower can bring in extra fire power.
When to use it
As the earth splinter has several ling range units with good life count it is a reasonable element to pick for the short range setting.
The Javelin Thrower more specially is a good choice for the armored setting. The piercing ability is quite useful when all enemies have armor. Also the unicorn Mustan is a good tank for armored setting as you can expect your enemy to invest in magical units.
The armor piercing ability is also nice to have in week magic setting.
To some extend this card in interesting in true aim setting. However I don’t recommend picking Earth splinter for this setup: the main advantage of Earth element is speed, which becomes useless in true aim setup.
Battle example
Let’s take this battle as example.
Setup
Equalizer
Earthquake
Mana cap 38
My lineup
Summoner : Wizard of Eastwood
Stonesplitter orc : The retaliate ability makes it a good tank. Plus it has some armor which is nice to have with the equalizer setup
Nectar Queen : this a perfect card for earthquake setup
Screeching Vuture : another flying unit so nice to have. Moreover in equalizer setting the opportunist will usually attack the enemy tank.
Mushroom seer : provide a nice extra firepower and will get a reasonable HP count from the equalizer.
Tower Griffin : flying ability so nice to have
Wood Nymph : Tank healer are rely strong in equalizer setting, so why not?
The enemy lineup
As you can see my enemy did not deploy many flying units. Moreover its only flying unit is on the front line which means it will dead quickly. Those are 2 mistakes to avoid in earthquake setup
The outcome
I lost only one unit to enemy fire, plus 2 extra units from the earthquake attrition. As I had 3 flying units I won quite easily.
