The Essence of Science, In Pursuit of Understanding Nature.

Man is a curious being, always eager to probe his immediate and distance environments such as the moon, Mars and other planet in search of truth.

He seeks to understand the world in which he lives in through one or a combination of the following : - experience, reasoning and research. These three approaches in understanding nature are neither independent nor mutually exclusive, they are rather complementary.

The main essence of science to the society is to produce useful models of reality. To achieve this, they form hypothesis based on observations they make.

Science therefore as a systematic body of knowledge consists of fact and principles, which explains man's environment. Other types of scientific knowledge such as concept, generalization, theories and change do exit.

Science may be viewed in essence as a way of thinking in the pursuit of understanding nature, a way of investigating and a body of establishing knowledge. The nature of science is that it is ever dynamic and changing. Science has tried to solve a wide range of human problems ranging from -

  • Environmental (green - house gases, global warming, pollution, desertification to landslides).
  • Medical - sickle cell disease, stem cell research, DNA-Genetic markings, down's syndrome, HIV/AIDS, infertility management.
  • Solar system and space exploration. Science on the other hand has created problems for mankind as seen in:

  1. Oil and gas exploration and exploitation in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria with severe Environmental damage and degradation.
  2. manufacture of Nuclear bombs (NUKES) as seen in Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan in 1945 during the second world war.
  3. Increase in crime wave and other social Vices. Science is still however very beneficial to man.

Thanks for reading.. I feel loved

I don't see how "Increase in crime wave and other social Vices" is in any way caused by science?

Don't tell me science have not contributed more in the recent killings and shootings done in most highschool's and universities.. it all came from science discoveries.

Do you know what "science" is? If you're trying to claim the invention of weapons capable of mass murder are the fault of scientists, you might want to check the difference between science and engineering. If you want to extrapolate the discovery of strong alloys and exothermic powders to the slaughter of children, then why not extrapolate the proliferation of fashion or art?

Science has not contributed anything to school shootings.

What contributes to school shootings are political, bureaucratic and narrow-minded individuals who perpetually refuse to give up their rights to bear arms and mental health problems driven by fear of mainstream medicine.

Your grasp of this concept is tentative at best. Maybe stick to writing about trivial things like fashion if you're not capable of comprehending more complex topics.

You still haven't justified your points clearly. But nevertheless all I can say here is, there can never be technology or engineering without science..

Wow... i love this post to the core.. filled with so much info
