My Personalized Steem Feed Proof of Concept is Ready for Testers!

in #steeemdev6 years ago

Content discovery on steemit is pretty poor in my opinion. Simply showing you posts that were written/resteemed by people you follow can get very cluttered. I want something that will show me posts that I am likely to be interested in. I have explained my initial plan:
A New Feed Using Upvotes From The People You Follow. Improving Content Discovery!
as well as updates:
A Feed Layout That Focuses on Content Discovery
What if Your Post Spread Like a Virus!? Looking for a SteemDev.

If you don't want to read my previous posts, here is a quick summary of how it works:

  • The program looks at every vote you have made and finds the top 100 people that have voted most similarly to you in the past.

  • Those 100 people become your personal curators of content. Whenever one of them votes on a post, it will show up in your feed.

  • As you vote/skip over posts in your feed your curators will receive scores based on whether you vote on the things they have or whether you skip past them.

  • The curators with the best scores will have a greater influence on the order of your feed.

  • Every day your worst curator is replaced with a new one.

Now I am not much of a developer, but I am pretty good with spreadsheet formulas so that is mostly how I have built my proof of concept. I would like to let people test it to help me improve my algorithm. I have been testing it for the last several months and my experience on steem has been greatly improved! I have found many interesting people and posts that I normally would never have come across.

I want to start with just one person probably and then start extending it as I get the process down smoother.

If you are interested please comment below. I will pick my testers in order based on the value of their upvote on my post (to see who is most interested/the most invested in the platform)

Using it is as simple as scrolling down a page and clicking on anything that sounds interesting to you. Over time your feed should become more and more personalized to the things that you are interested in.

Thanks for putting this together! I still think that excellent content discovery is the missing feature that Steem needs to really put it over the top.

I agree. It was getting to the point where I didn't even want to look at steemit because I couldn't find anything good to read! So I built this. :)

I've had a look at copying your spreadsheet to try for myself, but the instructions seem out of date or wrong. I managed to get the first part running when I changed the function name from ImportJSON to import, but it still eventually crashed complaining that it lacked permission to call openById. Can I suggest adding a sheet where you simply enter the username and it automatically updates?

Yeah, sorry those instructions are out of date. I can help you set it up when I get home from work today. Thanks for your interest and sorry for the confusion.

It is a really interesting project. If I enjoy playing with it, I might set up a @blockpress module for it, or extend the existing steem module in blockpress to include it. It sounds promising.

Edit: If you are okay with me doing that of course. You said you were looking to potentially work with someone on it.

That would be awesome! I look forward to it!

Not promising anything yet you understand! And I would need to turn your formulas into a JavaScript algorithm. Probably doable, but I'd need to look at it in more detail.
