Urbansketching : #onelastsketch of the 52 years old Beloved A&W Drive-in Building, Petaling Jaya. [timelapse video]
We had a great KLSketchnation sketchwalk session today with a really good turn-up. :)
We all gathered here today to commemorate this A&W Drive-in building that was built in the 60s, being the first A&W outlet in Malaysia with a quite peculiar concept of a Drive-in Restaurant , the first and one of its kind in Malaysia.
From the good ol’ days: The A&W res taurant in Section 52, Petaling Jaya, built in the 1960s, is known for its rootbeer, coney dog and dining in the car like in the movies. - Source
What is a Drive-in Restaurant?
Drive-in is not as same a drive-thru that most of us 90s and millennials know.
A drive-in is a facility (such as a restaurant or movie theater) where one can drive in with an automobile for service. At a drive-in restaurant, for example, customers park their vehicles and are usually served by staff who walk or rollerskate out to take orders and return with food, encouraging diners to remain parked while they eat. Drive-in theaters have a large screen and a car parking area for film-goers. - source
In short, it is where you park your car, and they will take orders and send it to your car an put on a hanger for your foods trays. It looks something like this;

This place have been featured in a Malaysian local film Kabus Tengahari in 1982;

KL SKetchnation 38th Sketchwalk.
It was scorching hot today so every one have to find somewhere shaded, comfortable with a good view of the building. Luckily the LRT station located right besides the building and on a higher ground so most of them get comfy from few spots there.
Me on the other hand started sketching with a quick one small one underneath the building, at the sitting area towards the entrance, while sipping a Root Beer and munching on some onion rings. lol
Then i got up as well to one of the higher ground.
And did this one;
We gathered back at the restaurant foyer for the show and tell and photo time.
As always we have them vote for their favourite works of the day and we've given out a small token for the top 7 sketches. :)
And lastly we, the committee members present today also had a quick photo. :D
Theres @harythilmy and @ridzmanlee too in here. The rest is still waiting for their Steemit account approval. lol
It was definitely a great and productive Sunday! Look forward to see you guys at our next sketchwalk soon. :)
