Steem Cartoon : Engraving Personality into Characters

We always need supporting characters and it is a good idea to build their personalities to be slightly eccentric because it will make the entire cast quite an interesting one. Sometimes a plot will have sub plots and it is not always about the main characters. We also need supporting characters to carry the image of the superhero and we infuse certain characteristics such as the wise, the funny, the selfish, the ignorant or the sly fox to give variation to the storyline.

Our hero need a character that is fatherly and this man has to be the place where he spills his love for a father figure. But not all good characters are perfect, they have flaws too. That makes it more human.

The character is a man of stature and he helm good position and power.

SC4.jpg

It is always very interesting to add a spin to the story. The king who is eccentric and partly humourous. He is caught up in his own world sometimes. That will give a variation to the superhero who is always concerned about saving the world.

This character is the wicked one. The one that will sow hatred and doubt against the hero. He is sly, shady and has lots of hidden agenda and likes to be manipulative in his conduct. He also holds a high position.

The three pictures above are some comic relief that I create to show how the process of animation works. We have the villain showing how the flow process is documented and produced. The hero and the king is listening attentively. Well, being given the microphone, the sly character couldn't contain himself but to break out into a song, quite an impromptu action.

This is here I infuse the motherly figure. An old lady with soft features. One that is not perfect but at the same time a loving one.

SC10.jpg

A hero isn't always strong and knows what to do. Sometimes they need help and guidance from ordinary folks. It is just like how Aunt May is to Spiderman.

SC11.jpg

Then there is the chief army. He is the loyal and trustworthy man. He leads the army but he is simple. He makes many important decisions but his decisions are based on his loyal and straightforward ways but may not always be the best one because he isn't a schemer.

Well the entire creation sometimes take a turn as we are developing. There is no cap to creativity and I usually like to keep the flow natural and uninhibited. What I do sometimes is to ask the audience what they like to see and how they want the character to progress, that will give us some input.

Managing the Hero

Of course, the main character has to be majestic like the bald eagle flying in the Grand Canyon. So we always create many posters like pose for him. Helps in building that aura too.
