How do I set, choose, or know my voting power?

in #steem-help7 years ago (edited)

Very confused about the whole thing, especially with the recent change. Could somebody explain or link me to accurate information?

Could we resteem to have a greater chance of an answer?

Hey there @eoincurran so I'll give you my general understanding of voting power. You don't unlock the slider to choose or set your voting power until you reach 500+ Steem Power or somewhere around that value. Until you unlock the slider, you're votes will use 100% of a single votes power

Is this answer still up to date? Eoin's question is the first related thing that pops up when I search for "how to change voting power", so I guess it would be nice to have the answer correct, even if the question itself is already 2 years old by now. And honestly I don't know either, at least not yet ;)

So how does steem power and a single vote power calculate to the vote's weight?

Very helpful, I have not heard about unlocking the slider! Does 500 steem translate to approx $500?

No, STEEM is a tradable currency so there is fluctuations in the price. At this moment it's around $2.21/l for 1 STEEM.
Therefore 500 STEEM worth around $1,100 today. (can be little less or more, depending on which exchange you choose)

Good to know! It'll be a while before it's something for me to worry about! (brand new as of a week ago lol) Thank you. Xx, Kay

Hunh, I didn't know that! I thought it was just a change in the programming when I started seeing it. Thanks!

I agree, I am confused about this as well

I think it's a very important aspect that I am definitely misusing

Go to https://steemd.com/@eoincurran.

You'll be able to see all your statistics, in far more detail than you will need. You can see your current percentage of voting power there, if you are trying to time a post or upvote to a full 100%.

As to the hard fork that just happened, things were more balanced in order to give the masses (minnows) the ability to give more voting power. I think it ends up being the equivalent of 10 full 100% votes per day. (So don't waste your upvotes by spreading them thin.)

I saw all the stats for eoincurran. So, Im figuring if we change it to our own names...Thanks, I been wondering about this too.

Hi @eoincurran,
If you want to monitor your voting power, you should try out https://www.steemnow.com where you can see your basic statistics in a simple form.

You can limit your voting power even if you don't have 500 SP but - as much as I know, only on mobile, using the eSteem app. It works on Android and Iphone. It is not perfect, but getting there.:)
In the settings you can set your voting power percentage which will be used for every vote you make through the app.

Thanks for the question @eoincurran and all those who replied.
