RE: STEEM-POCALYPSE SURVIVAL GAME CONTEST - SEASON 6 DAY 2 ROUND 1 - 125 SBD PRIZE POOL SO FAR

I choose option 1. I have knife and a pistol with 8 rounds of ammunition.

Many people are so dependent on corporations these days that they do not know what can grow wildly and can be consumed safely. Many types of grass can be crushed into flour and the blades can be chewed on for the juices, even those annoying dandelions can be edible. Biggest concern is pesticides and herbicides, but most could be washed off. You may also consider (for the purposes of this game) to eat insects like grasshoppers, crickets, locust, katydids. In fact, their presence could also be, albeit not perfect, as a litmus test as to whether the plants in the field were sprayed with chemicals. You could even try earth worms too. Do not eat mushrooms.

Whereas in a grocery store people pretty much presume what is edible, and will loot it and if people are resorting to cannibalism already the pickings must be non-existant or real bad. And supposing there was enough for a long time, it is likely some gang already controls the store. They may trade you food for your guns.....then when you are disarmed they could shoot you dead.

I would avoid anything found in a car. breaking into things could invite people to shoot you in defense of their property, and even if you did find food, it could be months or years old and killed by the heat or bacteria eons ago.

Going hungry is of course the safest option at first, but it can make you physically weak and sleepy. In the wilderness, the predators attack the weakest and the sickest-and cannibals would be no different. Also unless you are a saint, it is better to look for food because you don't want your hunger forcing you to engage in unsafe conduct later. Also, there may not be anything to eat in the woods between say when the fiddle heads grow in the spring and probably the berries of midsummer-and even some of them could be poisonous. Maybe you could find an animal, but why waste the bullets. Maybe you could fish, but no one has string to make a net or fish line [but no hook]. And without any tools to make a fire, depending on wild life could expose you to their parasites and also to food poisoning. I would suspect the insects found in the woods are less likely to be edible than the ones commonly seen in the meadow.

Sort:

How are the bugs 🐜 you find in the lot better than in the woods? You can find grubs, worms, ants in the woods most likely.

I am not a survivalist, far from it. I'd make a terrible one as I am a vegetarian. I'v always found it more difficult to spot insects in the woods than in the fields. Sure you can pull up an old rock and maybe some rotten wood and find something including ants and worms which are edible, but typically what you find [here] are not as well known to be edible as the crickets/grasshoppers. Pill bugs, earwigs, and mili/centipedes.
If this was the sunny US southeast, I should say that kudzu (a plant) is edible and as an invasive species it grows everywhere. Queen Anne's lace is another plant that is edible with its carrot like root, but it similar to many parsnip type plants (including hogweed) which are poisonous to the touch.

Are you still alive? In the game of course! Lol.

Nope on day 4 part 2, I stayed in the outskirts of town to find a less dangerous path and was shot and killed. Those who took the dangerous path lived. That day was purely a gamble, and I lost the bet.

Sorry to hear that! Gl next time, maybe we can partner up!

If that options comes up again, and it happens, sure.

of course being out in an open field could make it easy for you to be picked off by a sniper. But still they could get you walking down the road anyways.
