What's @ stake - my thoughts

What a wild ride it has been lately on Steem. It really seems like Justin kicked a hornets nest when he decided to buy Steemit and then take over the Steem Blockchain with the help of exchanges. The community united and swarmed back to fight them. It was the stuff of legend and I was proud to do my part even though it was quite small.
I must say that although the whole situation has been pretty tense and scary at times, it is the most interesting internet I've watched in a long time. The Townhalls on mspwaves are great entertainment and make me really feel like we are part of something special.

Where and for what do we stand

The actions by the community were very inspiring and something to be proud of. People put away their differences for a moment as we had a common enemy, no, not Justin Sun and the exchanges but a centralised nightmare. I am quite happy so far with the way negotiations are going, The witnesses seem to respect the consensus of the chain more than any thing and I do think it is in good hands,

The mess the Exchanges got themselves into are their own fault, and I enjoy watching their folly leave them very embarrassed. I believe their actions were a crime against blockchain and this 13 weeks prison term they will suffer is well deserved. There has to be consequences to their actions and I hope new rules for running exchanges will grow out of it.

Part of me really hopes we can make peace with Justin Sun and that there will be a solution found. Unfortunately he acts like a cornered rabid dog at times so I don't think he will come out of this with many friends. It makes me feel some pity for him that Ned sold him a investment without him knowing the details. But for me the exchanges getting involved is unforgivable and should be a wake-up call to all of crypto. These guys are the wanker bankers that crypto was trying to get rid of.

Who cares what I think?

That's very true, I am just one voice with little stake but I have been on this platform as a content creator for nearly 3 years and in that time Steem has become my internet home. It has pushed me to learn new things and has become a very important part of my daily life. You could say that for three years I have staked my free-time on it and would like to one day see a return. As a content creator it has it's ups and downs and I can sympathies with posts that give out about the distribution of the reward pool but for me it is not about the lambos and becoming rich it is about finding my voice and finding a home which I can call my own and have nice neighbors all around. So yes, even though my financial stake is quite small I helped build this town as it was intended to be built.

Where to now?

Whatever happens in this saga one thing is clear. This shit can't happen again. Nobody should be able to buy the Network. DPOS may be a good idea in a world of gentlemen and women but what Ned, Justin and The exchanges have shown us is that there will always be fuckers in this world and We must hard-code them out.

We need solutions, Hows about...?

As I said my sake is not as much monetary as socially. I sometimes feel powerless to have my voice heard, But my voice should be heard like all the other great unwashed. Our social stake should account for something.
I had a thought that maybe the weight of our vote could be also tied to our reputation or some other metric that shows we care about this place and are not just here to make a quick buck.
My Rep is 66 and Justin Suns is 64 maybe I should have some kind of bonus for banging away at my keyboard for three years even though he has all the money.
I'm sure many of us are attracted to this space because of what it can do for the every-man and not just those with power in their wallet. Surely that is what we are trying to replace.
That was just an idea I had that I would like to put out there. Don't have a clue how it would be coded, I leave that up to those with this as their talent.
At times like this I think any ideas should be welcome even if they a far fetched.

So those are my 2 cents (literally) on the matter.

Sort:

The rep thing is apparently pretty easy to game so probably more interesting things would need to be done with it first?

Having voting weight tied to SP is probably still not terrible at this point due to the long power down time. If the rep can be made somewhat reliable it would probably be useful as a multiplier or something though.

Yes I understand that rep may not be the best metric but I would just like to see that having some skin in the game accounts for something. When all this is over with Justin Sun I hope to see a way that the network is protected from this kind of actions happening again.
