Twitter, A Legacy Social Media Platform, Strengthens the Case for Censorship-Resistant Social Blockchains like Steem

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

It's no secret that centralized social media platforms are prone to censorship and doesnt look to be stopping anytime soon.

I noticed this parody account last month and got a kick out of it. My tendency is to be apolitical on this platform but seeing what happened to this account gave me an idea.

POOF!

  • Modern problems = Political Censorship on social media
  • Modern solution = Blockchain Technology with censorship resistance

Reached out to a friend of the account operator who has also been suspended. Hoping they would appreciate the gesture and consider continuing their political satire on the Steem blockchain.

If you have any good @aocpress style tweets, feel free to send them my way on DIscord (anthonyadavisii#5095). I'll post them up with you as a 100% beneficiary if they are good.

Any votes will be used to directlly power this account to cover resource credits. I also created a SteemAuto Fanbase which I can use to show @officeofmike the kind of support he and other endangered parody artists can receive on our blockchain.

This could be a good opportunity for the Steem community to engage the portion of Twitter that is sick of the political bias. Let's show them what Steem has to offer.

Remember to follow @aocpress, the latest breaking Steem blockchain parody account!

You know, we really should be trying harder to headhunt these accounts getting banned and show them support.

Seems like a really good way to create a loyal userbase that wants the best for the platform.

Absolutely.

We definitely need to recruit those that are shunned by big tech. Sure there may be a few trolls in the mix but up ultimately we are building a new society and culture. More importantly, we are giving a people a voice that cannot be stifled by the whims of a few.

Now, if we can address the flag abuse somehow, we will have a real winner

Something similar in mind I had while ago when crackdown was on gun related content. Like making Steem frontend for gun owners.

There are so many possibilities and, as such, I have been spending some time trying to get savvy with web development to build things myself. btw I am a staunch 2nd Amendment supporter myself. 😉

Technically, I am pretty much script monkey right now but have so many ideas. Just need the know-how so I can really run with them. Believe there is definitely a demand for additional Steem front ends especially customizable ones.

There are so many communities that are looking for alternatives. If we build it, they will come.

I completely agree.

If you need some coding tutorials check edx.org and Coursera they have lots of good courses for free supported by major universities and companies.

Throw questions if you need help I will be glad to help fellow coder.

Thanks for the follow on the account.

Will work to get content cranked out. Maybe someone can put a funny spin on the garbage disposal thing that just popped up.

Great job at reaching out to those who are experiencing this censorship crap that is going on. One door closes and you just cracked the door open on another. Great work once again!!!

Even flagged content remains on the blockchain but I am not a fan of demonitizing content for criteria other than quality.

Even if we disagree with the content idealogically, we can still acknowledge if it was put together well and brings some sweat equity to the table.

We can be people that disagree on things but that doesn't mean we can't work together.

I agree. I wrote about flagging recently given the Steemit change.
I know most people were joking, but a few commented like please don't flag me for disagreeing. Many were worried about accidents.
I am not sure, but if someone flagged me by accident and confirmed that it was an accident, I would expect them to remove it.

Steem could become the home of the excluded. That could mean some nasty elements, but freedom is freedom. It's going to get interesting as the big networks ban more accounts

@anthonyadavisii You have received a 100% upvote from @intro.bot because this post did not use any bidbots and you have not used bidbots in the last 30 days!

Upvoting this comment will help keep this service running.

Well aren't you a breathe of fresh air! 😀

I am definitely for empowering people that don't feed the self-serving bid bot economy!

I've been considering using "promotion" on my utopian posts only if the moderator rates it highly but buying votes still doesn't sit well with me.

It really sucks that the self-botters take so much of the inflation often without adding corresponding value. This inequity is perhaps one of the greatest down fall of Steem.

If someone does a good job contributing to the network, they should be rewarded without having to pay someone for it!

I know you're just a bot but perhaps the operator may read this. Good job!

Let's see if I can drain ismailkah's VP with declined rewards comments... You know for science.

By George, I think he wants another declined rewards comment to upvote. Happy to oblige.

Forgot to mention, preferably in the positive direction! 😛

Another declined rewards comment for the ismailkah upvote faucet. This is great!

At this rate, I'll be 67 rep in no time! Lolz
