SMT Progress Is Occurring

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

All of my regular readers know my position on SMTs and their importance in ensuring that the Steem Blockchain has a long and vibrant future. There are so many great things about the Steem Blockchain already, but SMTs will truly elevate it to the next level. The ability to implement Smart Contract Functionality and Derivative ICOs will allow it to branch out further and further and will allow additional use cases to be created utilizing it as a faster, more scalable, and thus more useful alternative to current Blockchains that allow Smart Contracts and Derivative Tokens, such as Ethereum.

A recent post by @ned gave SOME insight, but still a lack of firm or even estimated timeline alternative to the originally estimated timeline of Q2 2018:

https://steemit.com/steem/@steemitblog/steemit-blockchain-team-update-appbase-rocksdb-bandwidth-hf20-smts-and-more

There were a lot of positives in that article, them pointing to specific GitHub Stories regarding Core Functionality for SMTs. They also point out that they are working around the clock to get the TestNet up and running for SMTs, but I'm still hoping for a more firm commitment to a timeline if at all possible. If not possible, I would love to see them be upfront about that, as I think honesty and transparency are HUGELY valued, ESPECIALLY by Blockchain Enthusiasists and people in this space in general! They point out:

"We know that everyone is eager and excited to have SMTs completed and launched into production as soon as possible. So are we! Our dedicated team is working around the clock to make this happen. The first major milestone we are aiming to achieve is to have an SMT testnet (called “Forerunner”) up and running, where developers can start to play around with some of the implemented features.

We will continue to keep you up to date on our progress and will let you know as soon as the Forerunner testnet is ready for use."

and I recommend you check out the specific issues/stories in GitHub that they are working on/have finished by navigating to the article mentioned above. Links to the GitHub Stories can be found there and the stories range from the ability to implement SMTs to the way they are tracked, transferred, voted with, etc. I truly do believe they're making good progress and headed toward SMTs. I think that we will see them this year, but I hope it is within Q3 at the latest, with my extremely optimistic side thinking it could occur within the next 2 months (the testnet, that is). I'm excited for the future of Steem, with the implementation of SMTs being a huge part of that excitement, followed by the many different expressions of the current Steem Blockchain being a close second, such as DApps like DTube and DLive. Steem on and get ready for SMTs in the near future!

AS ALWAYS, WISHES OF WEALTH AND HEALTH FOR ALL! :)

Sort:

I'm even glad that the team are making updates to the community now because it was really frustrating before now when nothing was been said about the development.

I really do hope that they Will be more specific in their updates in the future.

Yeah, I think it's huge that they're being more communicative now, even if they haven't established a firm timeline, since they were borderline radio silent prior. :)

Steem will be soon in the top 20 list, by market cap.

I completely agree, ESPECIALLY if SMTs work out/Communities/more DApp Adoption occurs! :)

Let’s hope for the best.

Trust me it has been like thousand lives now ,it has been a alot of waiting ...
Eagerly waiting...

Smart Media Tokens { SMTs } is the future and this I can categorically say , the launch of SMTs will definitely be a game changer. We wait patiently for its launch

Yeah, Steen blockchain is our vibrant future. Steemit is the best way for investing. Steemit changed my life a lot. Great article @biddle sir.
I appreciate your work.

Thanks for sharing this post.

Have a wonderful day!!

We wait patiently for its launch

IMO steem is undervalued, I mean just look at the possibilities, it’s disruptive technology which can change the way we socialize.

Amen to that!

I doubt that, I mean I see potential but it seems the same as any other social medial platform, like facebook or twitter where you have to pay for your content to be recognised.
I am not a fan of this.

Yeah, I'm not sure there can ever be a way to make no person able to get an advantage in what is seen. Whether it is the amount their vote is worth or how popular they are as a person, some metric will make some people flocked to more than others and those others will always be distraught.

The alternative is sort of forcing everyone to view everyone's content, which doesn't even really make any sense. Keep in mind that this is a SATURATED site, with repeated information, the same stories by different people, etc. and whether something is even a 'good' article or valuable at all is Always going to be subjective, so I'm not sure it can ever be escaped that gaining an advantage will be the only way to be the MOST successful.

You have two options to get recognized quick:

  1. Pay to have a high upvote so that people want to read and upvote you and interact with you in hopes of you reciprocating/paying them.
  2. Create content that is so far above others that it can't be ignored. Some groundbreaking idea, or some new product that interests people, etc.

There really will never be another option to get recognized quick (you can grind and grind away with reasonable content and build up a following more slowly of course) and I'm not sure if there even should be.

SMTs though will at least create more upward mobility, but it will still all come down to whether or not your idea for an SMT is valuable and people want to invest steem.

I was not ready to pay the bots for upvotes, and so maybe I could not gather a large fan following. I know that there are only two ways, by which you can gain popularity but there should be something else that keeps people engaged here.
Steem was supposed to be a social media platform, but is now being limited to a mere blogging site.

The DIFFERENCE for Steem from Facebook, Twitter, etc. is that people can give you money with their MINDS rather than their wallet because the upvote doesn't technically cost anything and even with a very small amount of steem, those upvotes can add up, the platform is decentralized, it is censorship resistant, and soon Smart Contracts in the form of SMTs, creating a new level of flexibility on the blockchain, will allow for additional functionality that has yet to be thought of or implememted. Additionally, user data is not kept and sold by the steem blockchain; it is transparent through the blockchain explorer. Those are my thoughts on the matter anyway. :)

The fact that user data is not not stored, which means that nobody can steal it, makes Steem exceptional. Cambridge Data Scandal, is not a thing of the past, if you know what I mean.
I agree with what you just said.

sounds really interesting and we at @biddle are really looking forward for the go live of the SMTs.
We will definetly include this into the game mechanics, in order for SMTs to be found ingame, be rewarded with, being able to pay ingame or out of the game and so on and so forth.
This will give the first MMORPG on the Steem Blockchain a huge amount of new possibilities, that we will use to trigger off finally the thought of proof of game which will be a real blast!

Hey @shihabieee, what game are you talking about? :)

Great, Progress is all we ask for. 😁

Thanks, id be checking out the github stories

The testnet is a great idea. Can't wait to see how it all plays out

Agreed, i'm looking forward to it! :)
