Is reward Pool Rape a thing?

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

Hello dear steemians!

Lately the term reward pool rape is coming up a lot.

I personally think this is not a real thing, but more something that stems out of misunderstanding of how steem works.

So I would love to hear your thoughts on:

  • Is it something that is real
  • If so how would you replace the existing design with a better working solution?

Not a real thing .... if someone invested then they can use their investment however they like .... if its upvoting themselves or flagging the ones that do. Its all just a personal choice.

Well the reward pool rape is not a big thing in my opinion. If someone invested into Steem well let him earn.
The main problem in my opinion is the trending page:
If you visit steemit.com for the first time. You will see the Trending Page.
If you see a lot of Low Quality posts or advertisment there that has been upvoted by bidbots, this does reduce the chance of new visitors signing up to steem.
Thats why should really make sure that the best Posts are at the Trending Page.

It all depends on how you see steemit really. Some people don't like to see others doing well if they don't agree with how htey are going about it. When i joined there was a massive war over a certain user posting the same shit 10 times a day and self voting it to a hundred dollars every time.

There are two arguments to this. First that the user was raping the reward pool. He shit posted 10 times every day and voted himself every time and nobody else. He never replied to comments and cared for nobody else except himself and his actions were only damaging steem and it's users.

Opinion two was that the users held a certain amount of steem and was therefore entitled to use it in whatever way he saw fit. The whole point of the system is that there was no single body in control and it was up to the users to rule by themselves.

It's all perception.

I think reward pool rape is more of a personal feeling of what just rewards mean based on its dollar value. While some may be extracting rewards via bid bots or vote farming or whatever it's still a small % of the site and really doesn't affect much but looking at the minutia.

You can have a lot of a token but if it's worthless so is your stake. If everyone simply focusses on things they can control like investing in steem and growing their own account we can build a strong middle class that can deal with abusers and dictate how the site is used

I've seen so-called reward rapists also giving away some steem/sbd to carry favour and that itself helps use and distribution of funds. It did irk me in the beginning so I get why people are upset but its really just a result of the current status of the site and not what we aiming to have in future

Not real

Actually, I encounter the same term a few days back.
I did a post on steemit then till 3 days my reward was increasing but in the next 4 days my reward goes on decreasing then my friend told me that this is because of the value of reward pool SBD.
