Taking photo with the grapes

On a Saturday morning 27.04.2019 woke up and looking at my phone for schedule list of appointments... Looks like it's empty no appointments nor program for today.. Mmmm... I'm thinking of something to do but nothing sink in..

So I decided to bring my family for a dim sum breakfast at the Luyang famous Siu mai and many other choice of food there..

I was thinking there must be somthing in mind will sink in during breakfast.. So I just follow the flow whatever come up later..

After breakfast my eldest daughter said.. She wants to enquire about fixing braces to her teeth... Then we go to Luyang Clinic to get some information, but unfortunately it was closed.. Then we heads up to Inanam to buy some stuff for my wife's craft.

She refresh her craft making she learn recently
The outcome of the craft

Then while in the car still thinking of where to go next.. Then I remember something that we have been longing to go, but did not get the right timing to go... yess something sink in finally The Grape garden Come up in mind.

While driving I stopped by the roadside to make a call for direction from a friend, then off we go to our destination.

This Grape Garden called JonGrapevines and fig Garden located at Tamparuli in the District of Tuaran Sabah Malaysia.

Here are some photo of ours in the grape garden.

I managed to meet with the owner and getting some tips and sharing from him regarding grapes planting, very friendly and very generous in sharing his knowledge.

Some of the sharing that I can remember is that.
Grapes will start flowering and fruiting after prunning is done.

2 weeks after prunning it will start flowering and it took about 120 days till the all grapes ripe.

With this timing he can plan when he wants the grape to produce fruit.. If he wants the grape be fruiting during Christmas then he just count backward 120 days and prune it.

Another trick shared by him is that we can combine many verieties of grape species in 1 tree.. It will be awesome to have so many type of grapes in 1 tree..

@itsclare enjoy seeing the grape fruit.

There is 2 type of Grapes, one is
Table Grape and the other one is Wine Grape.

Table Grape is sweet and wine grape is sour but it can be sweet when it's really ripe but not as sweet as the table grape.

I did plant grape at my back yard but it's a wine grape and it taste sour.. He told me that the species called Issabella I planted 2 years back I think.

Those three photo is the grape from my back yard, Looks nice but taste sour.

I plan to chop it off to make way for new sweet Grape type... But he said don't chop it off, because I can make use of the tree to combine the sweet grape to it. Just attach the twig of the sweet grape and it will be diffrent grapes already.. Mmm.. Luckily I haven't chop it off yet..

He said to be successful in grape planting is that a Green house is a must if you are planting it in a tropical climate because without green house the fungus will attack the tree, then I asked him why in Europe they don't need green house.? He said in europe the weather is cold and dry here in tropical area the weather is hot and humid, humidity attracted fungus and it will encourage it to grow..

Another thing is, when the tree is sipping a lot of water during fruiting, the fruit will break and the fruit will be spoiled, thats where the green house is very important to control the rain from giving too much water to the tree..

The Garden also has fig tree that he plant there.. Infact this two grape and fig are his main fruit that he plant in his garden.
We tour the the garden guided by Will Scot and he let us taste the fig and grapes. I think he is doing practical there and if I'm not mistaken he is from Timbang Menggaris Agriculture institute. very friendly.. All the best for him in the future..

That wraps up our visit to JonGrapevines and Fig Garden..

Owh.. By the way the entrance tickets that you purchase here can be redeem for 15% discounts to buy seedlings of grapes and figs valid until end of the year.

Till next time..

Here is the google location to the Garden
