Realities for reflection: To my parents
I want to share some things with you that I think will help us have a better relationship. Please don't give me everything I ask for. Sometimes, I ask for things just to see how much I can get away with. Also, please don't always give me orders. If you asked me for things, I would do them faster and with more pleasure.
Please keep both good and bad promises. If you promise me permission, then give it to me. But, if it is a punishment, please follow through with that as well. Please don't compare me to anyone else, or correct my faults in front of others. If you need to correct me, please do so in private.
Please don't yell at me. I respect you less when you do, and it teaches me to shout too, which I don't want to do. Also, please don't tell me to do something that you don't do yourself. I will learn from your actions, even if you don't tell me what to do.
Please teach me to love and know God. It doesn't matter that they try to teach me at school if I don't see that you know or love God. If I come to you with a problem, please try to understand and help me. Please don't tell me that you don't have time for my "nonsense" or that it doesn't matter.
Lastly, please love me and tell me. Even if you don't think it's necessary to say it, I like to hear it from you.
