Steem Community Success! We Won the Netcoins Contest! Wo0ot!

in #steem6 years ago

We did! The free Netcoins listing worth $30,000 goes to Steem! Thanks to all of us who voted and helped to push STEEM (the token) and Steem (the blockchain) to greater success!

I think the results came in yesterday (at least that's when I noticed posts about us winning).

The Competition

The heat was on with PAC Coin early on, then we passed them near 6,000 votes. Then it was VERGE, which we passed near 12,000 votes. Then it was INS who was catching up to us out of nowhere as we went to 17,000 votes.

Those three top "competitors" didn't even have a community of real people behind them which comes anywhere close to what Steem has. Yet they were often battling it out with us for votes. Obviously, they were cheating. I think more of us needed to cheat to try to beat them.

The Community

Although we only managed to get over 19,000 votes on a platform of over 1,000,000 accounts, and about 30,000 active accounts, we still did it. But those numbers show how some users on the platform carried the platform to a win in this contest.

Not all users started to vote right away on the first day, since many of us didn't know about it (which includes me). Eventually more people paid attention to posts about the Netcoins contest, and more joined in. I started to vote on the 16th, late at night, and made my first post on the 17th, which gave me 4 full days to vote.

Now, if we take 4 days as an average for most people to start getting involved, that means only about 5,000 people participated by voting each day (4 votes per day X 5,000 people = 20,000 votes). And we know that some people were using VPNs, different browsers and emails (like myself) to try to beat the other coins with their obvious cheating. That means there was likely less than 5,000 people voting for 4 days.

Even if we take an average of 3 days to obtain 20,000 votes, that's still only over 6,00 people voting (6,666) at best. That is a pretty weak number for community involvement for a platform with over 1,000,000 "accounts", of which only about 30,000 are probably people who do something now and then and even less who are active each week. Voting wasn't that hard to do, it took max 30 seconds each day to do.

Anyways, we made it!

Thank you again everyone who voted and posted about it to get other people's attention and votes!

I am very excited about this. steem deserved the win. that is for sure. I am sad it was not a blow out though. I thought we had the numbers to do it.

Yes, it very much did, the most out of all of them. We had the numbers, but could have had more. The other coins cheated a lot more ;)

I am happy that our hard work paid off, I knew we would make it !!

I was hoping, I doubted we would lose to them, but then they were cheating so hard! :P

Great News!...:)...

I am quite sure I am following you on this, even tho we won it doesn't feel like a real win if not all participated and just about lets say 7k people actually voted to get use the victory. I know many are hear for the money and do not even read posts or comments but even if the only thing they want is money I believe if they would've engaged they probably have more money value in the future. I was trying to think in a post this morning regarding to what happened to me when there was the SBD explosion and what to do if STEEM follows same pattern now. Anyways I'm happy that we won and we probably get more attention from more users and even rivals :P.

Again thanks for your analysis @krnel

Hehe, maybe someday Steem will climb high like that. It might take a few years though ...

I'll be waiting for it to happen :P

hehe i did a post a couple of days ago regarding the sad reality of the contest which was the number of active accounts that is less than everyone expected (i won't post it here as i don't want to promote it more).

My results were very similar to yours and if i may add a daily active account is considered every account that does at least one of the following :upvote, post, comment, transaction, reply

here is the catch. If you use autovoting services or curations trails it count as active even though you may be out for vacations :p for a month!

Yup, a lot of "activity" is automated, maybe most of it :/

I learned about it just a few hours before it finished so I only voted once. Do you think this will help the price at all or just name recognition?

Well, that app is used in thousands of locations, so it will bring more awareness and potential buying of STEEM which would affect the price positively I would think. At the least it will bring recognition as you say ;)

I voted 3x's after finding out, and resteem the info. to get more votes. Looked bad there near the end, but enough came through. GG

Yeah, luckily enough came through :P

Haha INS got punked back to #3. What a bunch of scammy chumps.

Yeah, they were so close to us and then got dumped way back for their scammy shit :P

I'm not sure how this affects steem.

Steem and SBD are down.....(hardly changed.)

I would have thought this would cause a sudden rise in prices, if it was that good an outcome...?

Well, it can't be bad :P The rise would only be speculative, from perception of valuation based on being added. It's not a new coin or popular one in the crypto space for people to get all hyped up about. When it gets listed and people can start learning about it as they see it as an option, maybe that will get ppl to start buying and then that will make the price rise...

Mmmmmm.....

( I seem to be talking through meme at the moment lol)

pleasantly surprised i am! It is easy to imagine that most people do not care, or are not engaged.. but im not SO sure..

Most people probably didn't realise exactly what it was about, and then having to sign up may have put people off.. As you know, I am an AVID steem supporter, but i didn't vote.. only because when i looked i was nervous to put my email address in.. i realise now that i could have used any email ID.. but i wasn't SURE what it was all about ..

so .. maybe there are MANY more like me!
anyways.. WE did it, which is amazing really! next time ill know better ;-)

Yeah, you can just create a new one that you would never use again ;)
