I started off doubting that Steem was a worthwhile crypto, but honestly my thoughts have changed.

I've been sitting around in the crypto community since the early days of Bitcoin. Back in those days, I used to hang around a chatroom and talk to a group of people on a console modding forum. He used to talk about bitcoin, and adding a bitcoin implementation to the site and the store. We made fun of him, and joked about him and his "buttcoins". I never actually expected that cryptocurrencies would take off, but boy was I wrong.

After Bitcoin exploded to $100, then $500, then $1000, I decided that I needed to actually take notice of it. It was at that point that I found Etherium. I decided to put $250 into Etherium at $9/ether. I promptly forgot about it until a few weeks ago.

Curious about what ether was doing price wise, I checked up on it every few days. When I saw that ether had hit $200, I was stunned, so I looked into what the crypto world was presenting now.

The depth and breadth of what is being offered in this community is astounding. I diligently looked through all of the coins that I could fine on CoinMarketCap. I quickly looked over Steem, but initially I tossed it aside because I assumed that it wasn't presenting anything of substance

I was wrong.

Upon further digging into what Steem is trying to accomplish, I am completely sold. The idea of a non-censorable social network is something that is truly revolutionary. The applications are endless, and I sincerely hope that Steem will come to replace much of the current social media trends.

The need for a decentralized social media is becoming more and more apparent every day. Facebook's algorithms presenting you with a filter "bubble" of exactly the news that is likely to keep you on the website. Reddit posts are absolutely chock full of advertisements and agendas being pushed by PAC's. Youtube content creators are having payouts denied because their content doesn't adhere to the "nuclear family friendly" list of acceptable topics. The list of impartial media sources is getting smaller and smaller every single year, and Steem is opening the door to a new, gritty, real decentralized media.

Truly, we are on the cusp of Web 3.0, and it isn't just all about "buttcoins" anymore.
