It's about unity - discourse on the steem-ua discord

in #steem6 years ago

I felt like stating some of my views regarding the arguments happening on the @steem-ua discord. Of course, I'm all for having conversations, but the way we have them, the way we add our two cents, does matter.

A little call for civility, that is all...

But another thing that I wanted to point out is, that I am just another Steemian, I'm not there because I'm getting paid some sort of shilling/upvotes or anything of the sort, or do I have some sort of prestigious position

The "Just another Steemian" comparison is rubbish. Your average Steemian does not even think about the economics of the platform. When you say things like this:

I'm trying my best to pull Steem out of the gutter with whatever ability I may have.

It tells me you are not just another Steemian, as you phrase it. I understand wanting to be humble, but you are one of the few I see on Steemit, making daily contributions to important topics. This raises the bar IMO, and I think you should give yourself a bit more credit.

I respect how you state the limitations of your abilities in helping with things such as coding, but implicitly state your willingness to help on a somewhat philosophical level, or integral level, however you want to say it, I totally get where you are coming from.

I'm going to make up a fitting quotation of how I see things.

"The greatest architect in the world cannot build you the house of your dreams, he can only construct the image in which he is given."

Am I saying that programmers aren't visionaries? Absolutely not, (I think they are), but they are the architects here, (so to speak), and by us sharing our visions with them, it will help guide them in constructing our "dream home". (I hope my analogy makes sense, it does to me anyways..)

Although you go about this in a way where you try to avoid friction or arguments, I think it is probably inevitable that you will encounter friction on some level. There is nothing wrong with debate, so long as the debating parties can debate with a level of respect, and commonality towards opposing fellow man/woman.

One thing is certain, if I want to get involved in discussions regarding the future of Steem, or the platform, I always know you are one of the people I can engage with, to me, this makes you an asset to the community, and not "Just another Steemian".

You rock bro!

Much love,
@futuremind

All you're calling for is civility, even when in debate. Respectful, constructive criticism, along with questions and discussion, all ADD to a project.

Well said, @meno.

Again...
THANK YOU!

Very insightful! Really good to know this information. Especially after being so used to a particular way of posting content it is refreshing to see a new way of engaging with people. Thanks again for the info.

happy to see you bud, happy to have you be part of helpie too!

Constructive criticism : If you shave off your beard STEEM will moon within a week...

oh, i just give this a go... lets try it

Hi men. I understand where you are coming from and had no idea what was going on behind the scenes. I have no idea about coding etc and what is possible. The ua project is not complete so tweaking will happen, but I haven't seen anything better. Negativity is not what is required and maybe the ones that are complaining have self gain in mind.

Greetings, @meno. I understand what you're saying, and I think your call to civility is more than needed and was well expressed.
I have noticed some of the comments are really agressive and disrespectful. People's defense of their particular projects can turn ballistic against others'

i know we can do better, i know we can.

Of course we have to respect ideas and discuss them in a polite way. But we are all tired about projects running after our steem power, a lot of projects are asking for delegations and when someone come with a project related to reputation telling people that the reputation is not related to steem power and asking them for delegation it makes that paradox in the head of people and they start to be negative.

valid point... well, the algorithm's main goal right now, is to get people excited about steemin again, to get them to want to post daily, interact, connect and network. It does that with rewards, but the long term idea, the goal, I guess... Is to have this embraced by steemit inc, and get them to implement this.

to make people more excited about steem we should distribute our upvotes fairly between users, not to divide them again by reputation or classes. If someone is here for a long time, not spamming, creating good content, building community, interacting with others and helping them he should be supported, not those who delegate more or have more power. I know a lot of people who are making their best to support others but they do that just to make steem great, but they are not supported by big players. The best way to create rules and to earn good money is to create an app and get good delegations. But most of steem users are not developers, they are content creators and they want to be paid for that. We need to care more about content creators, developers and investors already have the big part of cake.

Never apologize for your opinion. You only criticize the things you like or love, otherwise; why bother. I watched your video 2x, and most of your points pertain to the social media aspect of Steemit, but right now we are getting creamed by the speculators and there are 2 ways to curb their influence.

  1. We need to be a community, or an army if you will, with the common goal to make Steem succeed, regardless of opinion. (there is room for everyone)

  2. We need independence from Bitcoin, because if we don't achieve that we will continue to be the plaything of entities much larger than Steemit. (they can screw us without investing a penny in Steem)

It doesn't matter what quality content we bring here, a much larger entity can buy or sell Steem at will, ..unless we join to form a majority stake that refuses to bail. To achieve this we need to be inclusive, not exclusive.

Saludos!

Very well said onnovocks, very well said...

Good point, and I'm really hopeful that eventually Steem can be a powerhouse entity, leading the pack, and be independent from Bitcoin.
