A List of Steem Apps: You can do more than just Steemit!

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

I've decided to compile a little list of the current Steem based applications that are revolutionizing the platform. I've tried Googling for a list similar to this, but they were all outdated and didn't feature all the great new applications.

So, if you are looking for something to do other than blogging on Steemit, here are some excellent options for you.

DTube - https://d.tube/

image.png
DTube is a replacement for YouTube. It utilizes the Steem blockchain and rewards video creators for their content. This type of decentralized, rewards based project will someday overtake YouTube especially since they have been sensoring a lot of people lately and de-monetizing their channels.

DLive

DLive is a decentralized live streaming service that is being compared to Twitch. To my knowledge, it has not been released yet. But, it does look promising!

SteepShot - https://steepshot.io/

SteepShot is essentially Instagram but built on Steem. As with all content on the blockchain you can be rewarded for your posts. They also have an Android and iOS app that you can download, although it may be slightly buggy as it is only in the alpha stage of development. This is one I personally use and love!

Utopian - https://utopian.io/

utopian21.PNG
Utopian is a platform with a focus around open-source developers. This project is extremely unique because they have found a way to reward open-source developers for their contributions through the GitHub platform and through Utopian itself. For the first time ever, open-source contributors can be rewarded for their hard work in the community.

Busy - https://busy.org/

busy.PNG
Busy is essentially a replacement for Steemit. The difference though, is that that Busy has a lot cleaner user interface as well as some features that Steemit is lacking. For example, one of my favorite features is the 'Activity' tab which you can see in the screenshot above. There you can see the latest activity on your account such as who upvoted your posts and when, new followers, comments, etc. I use Busy a lot more than I use Steemit.

DSound - https://dsound.audio/

DSound is another project I haven't used myself. However, by looking at it and browsing a bit, it seems like it most closely resembles SoundCloud. So, if you're a musician, producer, podcaster, etc. DSound could be a nice way to monetize some of your work and gain some fans in the process!

Zappl - https://zappl.com/

Zappl is basically the Twitter of Steem. Posts have a 280 character limit.

SteemTools - https://steemtools.com/

SteemTools isnt necessarily an app like the others. However, it is a massive collection of all types of Steem tools and resources. From calculators and account creators to apps like busy and the ones mentioned above. SteemTools has basically archived a heap of resources.

If there are any projects I forgot, please let me know and I will add them to this list and future updates of this list!

so interessing this post have to be shared

thank you! resteems are definitely appreciated @machhour!

Hi, How does dtube work? Do people vote on that site and the steem comes here or do we post there and our video comes here?

you would upload the video on dtube. it would appear both here and on dtube. the votes are cross platform so the same user can only vote once. the earnings displayed on both platforms are the same. they are both using the steem backend. just different websites/interfaces.

so your video will also be posted on steemit so it can get votes from people who dont know about or dont use dtube yet. its all tied in together though. you login to dtube with your username and private posting key. its all built around the same system. just different designs/websites serving different purposes.

you could think of steemit as sort of the mothership of all these apps. any post you make on these other apps will be displayed on steemit as well. but not all posts made on steemit will be available on the other apps.

Thank you. I just signed into it, just have to figure out how to upload there now.

upload button should be on the top right corner!

You missed out eSteem!!

Great artilce. I particularly the one re open source developers being rewarded. Huge implications for proprietary software. www.20180718_095030.jpg
