VICTIMS OF RANSOMWARE CRYPTXXX HANDING OUT FREE KEYS TO DECRYPT THE DATA

in #steem8 years ago

Bleeping Computer reports that the developers of the blackmailer CryptXXX for some unknown reason, give the keys to decrypt the data for free. Might have been some kind of mistake, perhaps, the attackers were not going to do charity work, but so far the information encrypted some versions CryptXXX, you can save absolutely free.

The first oddity noticed-affected CryptXXX users who regularly communicate with each other in the respective branch Bleeping Computer forums. July 14 victims of the coder found that a visit Tor sites CryptXXX, which have to interact to confirm payment of a ransom and get the key to decrypt the information, brings an unexpected result.

Entering your ID, the victim saw no payment of ransom, as is usually the case, but immediately received at the hands of the key to decrypt their information. Many have already experimented with the keys and report that they actually work, there is no catch.

However, to get a free key will not all. Researcher Lawrence Abrams writes that the keys will only be issued for older versions CryptXXX, that is, for those who substitute the file extensions on .crypz and .cryp1.

It is unclear, the authors malware deliberately staged this distribution of the keys, or the server experienced a failure. It should be noted that the first option is quite likely. For example, at the end of may 2016 operators TeslaCrypt ransomware decided to scale down its operations and move to more progressive cryptophyllobates... CryptXXX. Then the operators All, in fact, also free decoded data is affected: they published on his website the master key to decrypt the data.
