It’s that time of the year again… STEAM SUMMER SALES! I got an email from Steam (you know, the video game distribution software, not this amazing platform) with the lovely message that there are 7 of the games on my wishlist are on sale! WOOOHOOW! Fallout 4 for 15 EUR, GTA 5 for 30 EUR, Rocket League for only 12 EUR! This is amazing! 

Buy these games with Steem (Dollars)

While I almost paid for Rocket League with my VISA, I've found out that Steam is accepting bitcoin! Because of the sudden "collapse" of the Alt- and bitcoin market, it isn't a good moment to sell your investments for a game, because in a few days your coins will probably be more worth as they are right now! BUT... A lot of people sold their coins and instead of turning this value in to fiat again, they bought Steem Backed Dollars! While the whole market is showing red numbers, Steem Backed Dollar (SBD) went up  almost 42%! 1 SBD is now worth 2.19 USD! So, I decided to sell some of my SBD to buy me some games!

How to buy games on Steam with SBD?

For those who never used their SBD to buy things outside of steemit, a quick "how to do it": 

1. Go to an exchange* like Bittrex, log in (or make an account if you don't have one) and copy your SBD address and the "Memo"

(*don't use poloniex at the moment, the steem and sbd wallets is still disabled and it seems that the funds are not arriving)

2. Go to your Steemit Wallet and transfer SBD to the exchange

Go to your Steemit wallet and click on "transfer" at your SBD. Make sure to paste the Memo you copied out of the exchange in the Memo field! If there is no Memo, your funds will arrive at the exchange, BUT NOT IN YOUR EXCHANGE ACCOUNT! So please, make sure to write the name of the exchange correctly and to not forget the Memo field!

3. Sell the SBD for bitcoin

On the exchange, sell your SBD for bitcoin, as Steam only accepts Bitcoin.

4. Transfer the Bitcoin to a Bitcoin wallet like Exodus, Greenaddress, ...

Transfer the Bitcoin from your exchange wallet to another wallet, because not all of the exchanges support the payment method with Bitpay. I recommend you to use a wallet like Exodus or Greenaddres. 

5. Select your games on Steam and Pay with bitcoin

On Steam, select your games, add them to your shopping cart and choose Bitcoin as a payment method. You will get a BTC QR code you can scan or you can choose to copy the address. There will also be a notion of the amount of Bitcoin you will have to send. After you send the bitcoin, there will be a message that your payment has been accepted! 

Congrats! You just bought some games with SBD!
