SteemWorld ~ Newsletter #1 / January, 2018

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

I wish you all a wonderful new year, much success on Steem(it) and good profits in this fascinating crypto world!

From now on I am going to post such newsletters every few weeks to keep you informed about new features on steemworld.org and my progress regarding the implementation of the planed modules. As my time is too short to make a detailed post about what I have developed in the past weeks (still need my part time jobs to pay my bills), I can not do other than just give you a small update post currently.

Since the web service I use for receiving the incoming delegations seems not to be always available/reliable (guess it is under heavy load) and the data are not being refreshed daily anymore, I'm now working on my own solution (SteemWorld Web API running on my server) that will work much faster and will be able to fulfill my desired quality requirements.

As some of you may have heard already, I have been hit by a car on a bike trip (part time job) recently and therefore I can not sit as long as I usually do on a daily basis to work on SteemWorld. But I am feeling really good today and I think it is just a matter of a few days until my leg will be regenerated to the fullest... :)

Updates / New Features

  • Delegations now editable
  • Replies tab, zoomable pictures in Recent Posts
  • STEEM/SBD Price Ticker Web Service (running on my server)
  • USD/EUR amounts calculated by the use of external prices
-> Curation now excluded from amounts in USD/EUR by default
  • Percentage of total reward fund in Coming Rewards
  • New operation filters (upvotes, downvotes, delegations, market orders)
  • Possibility to hide specific operations
  • Tool "Account Votes" (Voting Analysis Tool, alpha state...)
  • New Settings (Coin Site, Preview Currency)
  • Power Up (Balances)

Currently Working On

  • SteemWorld Web API
This enables me to implement SP ranks and an overview of the top whales like on steemwhales. Thanks to @acidyo for the great idea!

The Winner In The Race Of The Fastest Steem Nodes

I am happy to announce that the top default node for SteemWorld is again the one and only "rpc.buildteam.io" powered by @themarkymark! If you enjoy the good performance in the tool and you haven't voted for him as witness, you should definitely consider doing so! Thank you ;)

What I have learned on my journey as developer:

If you need a solution that always shall operate as expected and you are able to do so -> Build your own!

Have Fun & Steem On!

You must really love Steemit. Your Steemworld webpage is one of the best apps out there. I am very thankful for it. Keep up the great work! tip!

good comment is true that is the best application I use daily.

Thanks for everything you do! I am sure I use the Steemworld app more than any other. Please post more, so I can contribute my puny vote to your progress, and I'm sure others will do that as well.

Thanks man! I love to create such tools and most of my time goes into developing the SteemWorld, but you're right. I really consider to post more, maybe once a week, so that the people have a possibility to support me.

Same here :)

Thanks for making our Steemit life better with the developments you have added onto the Steemit platform. I have some small requests though. Could you please add a feature that notifies someone when a friend mentions them in a post.

Thank you! Yes, the mentions module is planed and will be implemented after building the SteemWorld Web API ;)

Cool i cant wait.

This is the the best app of its kind, hands down. Keep up the good work mate!

What does the “Voting CSI” statistic refer to? What is a “good” value or a “bad value” for Voting CSI?

The CSI is being calculated by watching the upvotes for the last 7 days (maybe I will change it to 30 days). If someone always votes the same accounts it can have a negative effect on the CSI. But of course it's okay to vote the same authors every day as long as one is voting for others as well.

It still may need some fine tuning, therefore I will take a look at some accounts in the coming days and optimize the algorithm as needed.

Your value is very good btw ;)

The CSI system is a good Idea maybe, I am not sure. An individual that has less than 500SP, is most likely going to remain in the red. They do not have the ability or the power like a large dolphin or a whale to spread their vote around.
When first starting out in steemit in order to build your reputation you need to find a like minded group of people, that is what most people that have spent any time on stemit tell you. I am not going to impress the cooking people with my ability to open a can of beans and cook them. My drawings that look like they were done by a 3 year old are not going to impress anyone.
I might be interested in those items, cooking and art, but I am not ever going to have a cooking post or an art post get much traction. Now in games, I may find a few or a lot of like minded people, of blogs that I really like, so I would tend to stay in that community as I try to build my SP upto slider category. So to build my REP in the game community, since that is what my blog is going to be about, my 10 votes a day are going to be concentrated in that area.
By having my 10 votes a day concentrated among a few people I am receiving help from, my CSI is going to be like shit deep in the red, for a long time. When Communities come to steemit, how is the CSI going to work with that, most people will be in their own little niche then. Homesteaders in Homesteading community. Authors in the Writing Community. Motor bikers in the Motorcycle community, Travelers in the Travel Community. All these communities already have pretty well known leaders of the pack in them. new users to get and gain traction are going to be using their votes on their leaders, and a few of the other predominant person of that group.
The reality of being less than a minnow is that you have 10 votes a day to use and that is all. You can use more but then it would not take long before your vote is 0 and it takes forever to recoup your vote power.
Just a few things to think about.

The CSI algorithm does not make a difference regarding to the users stake. I've optimized it a bit in the last hours and your value is neutral now (page refresh required).

Never underestimate giving a vote to other accounts even if it is only $0.10! You didn't vote for my comment but you have taken some time to think about the CSI and writing a great comment, therefore you will get a 100% vote from me ;)

Cheers!

You see, that is one of the problems. My vote power is down to about 85 percent. As a less than minnow status, I unfortunately need to be conscious of my level or vote value drops quickly. There are people that it does not matter how often you visit and vote do no reciprocate. An individual like me will unlikely reach green status until the vote slider is achieved.
I will upvote reply, as I do appreciate the response. All I ask is that this not become another whale centric system such as the downvote system. I have 4 stories that I enjoy reading on a daily bases, there go 4 to 6 votes a day depending on interaction. That leaves 4 to 6 votes for other areas of interest. It has been almost a week since my vote power has been in the 90 range.
In adition I have recently agreed to help 2 individuals on there project so there go 2 more same daily vote potential, leaving 2 misc. Votes available. That is my reality on steemit.
Once again thank you for the response and seeing the issue.

Did you try my manual vote tool on SteemWorld? I'm not sure if it will work with < 500 SP but I think it should. There's a slider:

I will have to wait til I get home. To hard to try on the phone. I am lucky that I can open more than one page.

very interesting conversation of the two, I'm going to try that tool, although I still wonder what it is worth to give a vote if it is not 100%? it is not more profitable for the 2 parties both voter and voted to receive the 100% vote
I'm still learning

I got a really long error report, will try on a newer post and not a comment to see if it works.
Here is the error report:

Ok

Okay, no problem using on a brand new post thank you.

I am so ecstatically happy with this a made a post about it, thank you for all the hard work and making this available for us redfish, I no longer feel like a redfish, I have entered the Japanese Betta Fighting fish stage.

https://steemworld.org/@coolguy123 This guy should fare well!

Yeah his value is great:

 < 1.1 bad (red)
 >= 3 good (green)

but some changes regarding these values may occur in the coming days...

Hab' dir ne Memo in die Wallet geschickt.

Still not clear what it means. Crime Scene Investigator? Chocolate Science Indicator? Chinese Song Incidence?

Community Support Index. The higher the better. I will explain it in my next newsletter.

Ah! Klingt schon mal spannend!

I sound like a movie csi hahaha search in google and I only found crime scenes

Your SteemWorld is great, Thanks for this very useful tool.
Sad to hear that you are hit by a car and injured. Wish you a speedy recovery.
I think you should rest well until fully recovered, then only continue to update with new features.
Steemworld is good enough and updates can wait. Health is more important 😊

@steemchiller—Of all of the Steem apps available, yours is the one I use the most for virtually everything I could want to know! Thank you for developing this and for the improvements you're making. Sorry to hear about your accident, but I wish you quick healing. Keep up the good work. I will try to support you as much as plankton can!
