How about communities doing this? I feel annoyed about it as well because it feels as if you are forced to do the same.

Another point of annoyance is that witnesses are promoted or leave their own message behind with the words like: .... lower upvote because...
If I check (and not only with me) it's an upvote of 0 so I wonder why these witnesses are promoted madly. Is there a reason to mention the upvote is reduced? Why this fooling around? )

I lie, actually, I don't wonder since no one checks and they just follow whoever started this first.

Let's see if I have some free boring days to work myself through the witnesses. I intended to do that earlier but all that I noticed was the witnesses didn't update their papers or they lack (also a way of promoting themselvesself).
