Rest is one thing we often neglect as we start to chase success. Many of us in 9ja are very ambitious and we may feel the need to keep pushing ourselves, to keep chasing the bag day in and day out, but I want to note that rest is equally essential in that pursuit.

Rest is essential because as we say in 9ja "Body no be firewood". We can't function at our best if we're constantly running around completely exhausted. Over time, exhaustion sets in, and our productivity suffer. We start making mistakes, and we start becoming easily angered.

You even see some people pride themselves on how little sleep they get or how they are always busy, as if it's a badge of honor. But the truth is, without proper rest, we are doing ourselves more harm than good. It’s like driving a car without stopping for fuel; eventually, you’ll run out of gas.

I think we always get it wrong when we think that "Rest" mean sleep. No! Rest could mean taking a short break, relaxing, and allowing yourself moments of peace. It’s in these moments of rest that we not only recharge, but also reflect, and sometimes even find solutions to the problems we’ve been trying to solve.

Personally I've been there. There was this time when I was working on an assignment, and I was so determined to finish it that I barely slept because it was going to be submitted the next day. I told myself I won't sleep till I finish so I don't lose time. But after a while, I was making errors I wouldn't normally make, and I couldn't think straight.

I had to close my laptop and set my alarm for 2 hours to sleep. After I got some rest for that 2 hours that I was able to see things clearly again and finish the assignment with better results.

The point is, rest is not a sign of weakness or laziness. It’s a sign of wisdom. Knowing when to stop and recharge is key to success and good health. "I am busy, I am busy" is not something to really brag about. So, as we are chasing the bag, let’s not forget to take care of ourselves by resting.
