A. How do we obtain wisdom?

1. God gives wisdom to those who fear him and forsake evil.

Job 28:28. The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.

2. Wisdom comes from having a relationship with God.

1 John 2:27. You have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you all things, and what he teaches is true - it is not a lie. So continue in what he has taught you, and continue to live in Christ.

3. Obedience to God’s word - his commands, laws, and teachings - will make us wise.

Proverbs 1:5-6. Let those who are wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. And let those who understand receive guidance by exploring the depth of meaning in these proverbs, parables, wise sayings, and riddles.

4. If you need wisdom, ask God, and he will give it.

James 1:5. If you need wisdom - if you want to know what God wants you to do … ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking.

5. Listening to Christ’s teachings and obeying his words will give wisdom.

Colossians 3:16. Let the words of Christ, in all their richeness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and counsel each other.

6. Those who seek wisdom are the ones who will find it.

Proverbs 8:12, 17. I, Wisdom, live together with good judgement. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment. … I love all who love me. Those who search for me will surely find me.

Proverbs 3:5-6. Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.
