It is important to know that being unhappy isn't the same as being depressed, unhappiness is just for a while, we become unhappy due to occurrences or situations that happened, we become happy when a happier event happens. Do not mix up sadness with depression, they are very different

Let me paint some pictures in your mind;

  • You left food in your kitchen before heading to work with the hope of eating it when you return. After a long day in the place of work, you get back home and find out the food you left is spoilt and uneatable. Are you sad or depressed?

  • Your read it online that an old classmate passed away, though you've not heard from the fellow since you left school. Are you sad or depressed?

  • You lost your job a few months again, your bills are piling up, your rent is due in a few weeks, your pantry is almost empty and there's no one to turn to, everyone you could ask for help has a story to tell. Are you sad or depressed?

  • Your fiancé left you at the altar after promising you heaven and earth, now you've become a laughing stock in the neighborhood. Two years down the line, no man has asked for your hand in marriage. Are you sad or depressed?

You see, these are different scenarios that we may have to pass through in life and they all have different emotions attached to them. You are depressed if nothing can shake you out of your gloom, no joke can make you laugh, nature and its beauty doesn't even wow you anymore. Getting out of bed is now such a big deal to you.
Note: not all depresses are gloomy, some have a better perspective about life than you, until they attempt something fatal.

Watch out for these signs!

  1. You are easily fatigued: Every activity gets you tired, feels like you just complete a 1,000km marathon race. Simply getting out of bed or the shower drains all your energy.

  2. You just can't sleep: You turn and toss into the early hours of the day without meaning to keep a vigil. You begin to resort to drugs to get a little sleep, in time, you double the dose.

  3. You suddenly lost all interest in things you love to do: When you are depressed, nothing makes sense to you. You find no reason to do the things you used to love to do. You ask yourself "what's the point?".

  4. You become anxious: Every foreign and or sudden sound or movement gets you edgy and panicky, you become restless and nervous.

  5. Lose of appetite: You suddenly don't feel like eating so much anymore. This leads to weight loss and sunken countenance.

  6. Sudden emotional outbursts: You start to lose control of your emotions and temper, you get angry without justifiable cause or cry at every little thing.

  7. Talk of death: A depressed person starts considering death as the only option, " life has no meaning, death is the way out" thinks a depressed man.

  8. Other telltale signs includes but not exclusive to; rapid breathing, excessive sweating, loss of muscular control, feeling of dread and danger, etc.

Now that we have identified some of the signs, getting help is the next important step.

  • Talk to someone
  • Avoid being alone
  • Find a new adventure

And be a happy person.

That's a beautiful write-up about depression and ways to walk out of it.
There's alot to be sad about but the hope of a better coming tomorrow is enough to make one stronger. The more you feel sad about a situation, the more it overcomes you and proves powerful than you are.
Wake up and let go so you can work towards achieving something greater.
