Thirteen-year-old teenager and Amateur archaeologist discovered a large medieval treasure, which might be connected to the Danish king Harald Blatand. Treasure hunters examined the Northern part of the German island of rügen in the Baltic sea using a metal detector and found a small silver object. Realizing that before them something valuable, fans called professional archaeologists.

The archaeological service began excavations on a plot of 400 square meters. The efforts of specialists were rewarded: they found a lot of valuable items belonging to the X century. Necklaces, pearls, brooches, a hammer of Thor, rings and 600 coins were found. The oldest coin in the treasure — Damascus dirham Dating back to the year 714, and the latest dates from the year 983.

Interestingly, more than one hundred coins belong to the reign of king Harald Blatand (958-986), in which Denmark officially converted to Christianity. In addition to Denmark, his Kingdom included the Northern territories of Germany, southern Sweden and Norway.

According to archaeologists, the discovery is of great historical importance, as it is the biggest treasure of the age of king Harald Blatand. Values could be hidden in the end of 80-ies of the tenth century, when Harald fled to Pomerania (a historical region in the southern Baltic sea) after the uprising, his son Svend I Tveskaeg.
