I have come to the end of breast feeding and I realized that, the first and last days of breastfeeding are never very easy. The first days are characterized by the new mom taking foods and substances sometimes drugs to enable flow. When it finally starts flowing, the baby cannot suck enough and the new mom has to suffer breast engorgement which could end up in mastitis or worst, abscess, sometimes accompanied by cracked nipples and the new mom has to go through it patiently since the aim is to make sure her new born is well fed. These two problems accompany the new mom still bleeding and her womb contracting and sometimes and unstable mental situation which nobody can notice if they do not pry. Eventually it passes and she nurses her baby smoothly and happily for as long as she wants, then when she is ready again, she has to go through the process of weaning the baby. This time around the baby could be unwilling to let go and has to cry all day and night, so not only is the mom sleepless she is worried because her baby may start losing weight sometimes the baby’s health goes on the negative side and the baby becomes sickly (because the nutrients provided by breast milk are no longer there and the baby’s system has to adapt). Then again the mom has to go through the process of engorgement and the unwilling baby almost always never makes it easy as they will keep fighting their mother for they cannot understand why their once upon a time delicacy is no longer being served them. Talking to most moms at this phase of my life I realized they take nothing to ease the pain but just bear with it because myth has it that nothing can help it, I will like to say anti-inflammatory drugs will always help you in this situation. You do not have to go through all of that pain, consult medical help and take an anti-inflammatory drugs. At the beginning you can bear the pain just for the sake of the baby’s health but at the end of it all, know that, that baby needs you in good shape and health, so you should go and consult.
Thanks for your keen attention.
