In the belly of a fish, Jonah reaffirmed his purpose in the Lord. But the story of the Bible about the consequences of disobedience does not end with Jonah obeying God.

The book concludes with the moment when Jonah recognizes the reason why he does not want to do the same thing that God had entrusted to him and how the Lord punishes him for his selfishness.

Jonah was afraid of the Ninevites, that he was a threat to the Jewish people, that he would repent, and then God in his mercy would not destroy them. The profile of the investigation that wanted to be annihilated: "Therefore, an end to prevent the salvation of Nineveh fled to Tarshish".

And he prayed to Jehovah and said: Now, O Lord, is not this what I have said is in my land? That is why I hastened to flee to Tarsis; because I knew you, you are God, merciful and pious, slow to get angry, and great mercy, and that you repent of evil

Believers resist doing God's will for many reasons. Sometimes, although we do not like to confess this, we do not like the likely outcome of obedience. As Jonah did, we can also lose sight of the spiritually important things and focus on our own desires and comfort.

Our dissatisfaction with what we think might happen is not a reason to resist God's plan. If the Lord calls us to act, He will take care of the final results. Our job is to obey.

What prevents you from obeying the Lord? We are not to be governed by feelings, no matter how strong they are. Your heavenly father expects obedience. The final results may surprise.
