Lessons to be learnt on Bible story of the Prodigal Son
The parable of the prodigal son is one of the greatest love stories ever told - a story filled with mercy and grace. It portrays God's perception about his creatures 'We' and how he chooses to accept us despite our unfaithfulness. The bible verse about the Prodigal Son shows a Father and two sons. Whilst the older son stayed home and worked hard for his father, looking after the properties his father owns, the other son, the younger ran away into a distant country with his inheritance and lavished it.
Living a life unfit for his pedigree, he thought of returning to his Father.
With open arms, his Father welcomed him home and fill with great compassion. The oldest son became very angry with brother's return and acceptance by his Father.
Luke 15:11-32 shows Jesus' parable on the Prodigal son
Quite a lot of lessons to be learnt from the story today.
If you were the prodigal son, What would you do in such a situation? Would pride prevent you from returning home or restoring a relationship?
How better would have reacted if you were the older son who have watched over the father's properties
Would it have been nice if the father had treated the prodigal son badly?...Like giving him a taste of his puddy???
Perhaps you actually find yourself at present in a position similar to that of the son in the parable. You have been estranged from a parent or friend and feel you cannot return to him or her. You can’t bring yourself to pick up the phone or reach out and begin to mend a broken relationship.
Sadly, in today's world, we get so connected to social media and thus, forget to connect to the most active and ever available media to God (The Bible).
Having friends in quantity on social media doesn't count what matters most is quality friends that drives us crazy about God's amazing powers.
A quick reflection on Christ's story about the Prodigal son reaches a very disturbing point when the young man comes to his senses and realizes the servants in his father's home have plenty to eat than him. He says...
“I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you’ ” (Luke 15:18).
WHAT ARE THE SPIRITUAL LESSONS FOR US?
From this parable we can draw a number of spiritual lessons:
We can be a genuine son of the Father--who is spiritually "alive"--and be "lost" through sin. We can turn our backs on our heavenly Father and leave him of our own free will. Mortal sin is a real possibility.
Mortal sin inevitably lands us in a far worse state than we were in originally.
We can return to our heavenly father through supplication and prayers. He is open to receiving us despite our many flaws.
Active Christians are likened to the older son and should never resent those who return to God Almighty.
Their own place is secure and their heavenly reward is not threatened. God loves them just as much as he loves those who come back through a dramatic conversion
There is always hope for reconciliation. Pray for it and expect it. Never ever give up on God!
