CAC DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE 📚
(THE LIVING WATER)
DATE: Friday, 29th June, 2018
TOPIC: HELPLESS, BUT NOT HOPELESS
📖 READ: John 5:1-9
MEMORISE: The sick man answered Him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me." Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your bed and walk." (John 5:7-8)
EXPOSITION:
Occasionally, you might find yourself in a state of helplessness. It is part of life. People who promise to stand by you today, may desert you, the next day. Those people you think should rally around you in time of need or other challenges might end up disserting you. You can be disappointed by people you really and deeply trust. Such is life, the same life that is made up of different people with different characters, orientations, ambitions and dispositions. The good news for people in such states/conditions of helplessness is that when and where there is life, there is hope (Job 14:7-9).
Our hope is in God who cannot and doesn’t disappoint, because He is not a man (Num. 23:19). The man at the pool of Bethesda was completely helpless. All his people had run away from him, having done all they thought they could do to help him. The reply he gave Jesus in verse seven reveals the mind of a person who had totally lost hope. The Lord Jesus chose to come to this ‘helpless’ man on his own – no invitation. Again, the Lord decided to heal him regardless of his lack to faith. That Jesus healed him is a pointer to the truth that one who is still alive is not hopeless, no matter the seeming helplessness of the situation of his life, most especially if and when he encounters the Omnipotent God in Christ Jesus (Matt. 28:18).
Although this man did not know who Jesus is, yet the Lord had mercy on him and put an end to his helplessness. If He could do it for an unbeliever like this man who neither knew nor invited Him, He can do more than that in your life. All what you need to do is put your trust in Him and passionately invite Him. He is the Father for the fatherless and husband to the widow (Deut. 10:18; Ps. 146:9). Jesus is the life-giving God (1 Cor. 15:45) who has the life-giving power to help the hopeless. Your own miracle is on the way, in Jesus’ name.
PRAYER POINTS:
Jehovah Jireh, let Your power of provision speak for me at every junction where it seems door of help is closed against me, in Jesus’ name.
Lord, You are the Father to the fatherless and Mother to the motherless, let my help speedily come from you.
Remember as many as you can of people around you whose situations seem helpless. Intercede for them in Jesus’ name.
