Utopian: OFFICIAL STOP to Micro Suggestions and Ideas

in #steemdev7 years ago (edited)

Utopian.io has a bot powered by 3 MILLION STEEM POWER that votes through the contributions. We receive a LOT of nice suggestions for many Open Source projects but we think it is time to stop micro features requests and micro suggestions in the Ideas category in order to create more value and move the smaller suggestions on a specific category this Monday.

We have seen the Utopian Bot voting up to $80 micro suggestions that don't deserve such a huge amount and on top of that the Ideas category in Utopian was never meant to be used for small features requests.

Kickstarter Approach

This is what we have in the rules https://utopian.io/rules

Ideas/Feature requests Category
Contributions submitted under this category are the most important ones, therefore they must provide as much details as possible. Ideas and feature requests must be well explained and in great details. They must include images or videos and include any necessary information for the idea/feature to be created.

When we wrote this rule we had in mind a very specific approach, a Kickstarter approach, where ideas are:

  • Well Structured
  • Well Documented
  • Well Designed
  • Well Presented

We have been soft so far because the platform needed more traction.

From now on if you wish to publish in the Ideas category in Utopian you will have to make a beautiful presentation and explain your concept in great details. Micro features requests are not gonna be accepted in Utopian any longer in the Ideas category.

EDIT: You will still be able to write suggestions in a specific category we will create just for that. We will write an update once the new category is available.

If you wish to see an example of well presented ideas, go and visit Kickstarter.com. That is the quality we wish to see in Utopian in the future and this effort starts just now.

This is great and it was totally necessary, with such high SP the main idea is to keep it as high as possible in order to take the the biggest gain of it. This is a way to filter content and rise the standards by increasing the quality.

Love watching the evolution in realtime

thank you ,elear it is very good concept .....

Kinda saw that coming with so much SP, good solution while the moderating structure grow more bandwidth.

I liked this idea, people need to really bring value with the ideas!

what type of contributions? if someone can create a quality full post on utopian.io project, he can get a vote value upto 80$...? or something else?

I agree with your realization 100% and it's good that there is a learning curve happening at this early stage as I do believe utopian.io is a good idea.

However, it's quite unfair to the contributors and to the bot (poor bots!) for doing what they are programmed to do. Come to think of it, who programmed those bots? they don't think for themselves (we haven't gone that far yet) take responsibility of those bots and your moderators who accepted the contributions.

This is what we have in the rules https://utopian.io/rules

Ideas/Feature requests Category

Ideas and feature requests must be well explained and in great details. They must include images or videos and include any necessary information for the idea/feature to be created.

In your rules you have not quantified or even mention what is micro request and micro suggestions , this takes a qualitative/quantitative assessment which your bot cannot do by their own.

As a developer myself ...i consider every contribution as crucial as the system i'm building. Because however micro you think of them (your word not mine), they make up the entire system or even made you realize something right? or have lead you to make a better change to utopian.io!

there is no such thing as micro ideas ...only meager heads

Totally agree with you @precise. This post was a fast patch to avoid these kind of micro suggestions being submitted in the platform. We take responsibility this is why we are creating a different category for them where the bot will vote with less power. Will be released tomorrow ;)

Hi @elear, I can understand the need. Do you also have examples on Utopian-io that are already fulfilling the new standards? Kickstarter is a difficult comparison. There most new ideas have a suffisticated video that is produced by professionals.

I think there should still be a place for micro suggestions/ideas/feedback, that don't get upvoted by the utopian bot and are not necessarily featured on the start page... maybe just on the project page.
