Pull Request Submitted - Updated Condenser Installation Instructions

in #steemdev7 years ago

This is probably of limited interest to most users, but it is important for the community developers that work on condenser (the code for Steemit.com). Steemit recently made a lot of changes to the way condenser is built and run. When I recently went to make a change to the site, I found that I could no longer install/run a local instance of condenser.

I opened GitHub issue 1609 and @sneak explained what the issue was. They are now using a tool called yarn instead of npm. It turns out the instructions to install and run condenser were out of date, since they still used npm.

I spent the afternoon learning about yarn and figuring out how to get everything working with the new tool. After I was able to get a local instance up and running, I went back and updated the readme to have the correct installation instructions.

I submitted pull request 1629 with all the changes:
https://github.com/steemit/condenser/pull/1629

If the pull request is accepted, then the readme instructions in GitHub will have the correct instructions so that other community developers can install and run a local instance of condenser.

The PR is not accepted yet, but I plan to work with Steemit, Inc. to make any edits necessary to get it approved.
